Two Quick Questions?!

Question: Any tips on keeping my eyes from burning while chopping onions?

And, I just put a lovely gash in my finger while trying to cut a butternut squash in half. Any way I can quickly get the bleeding to stop? It's kind of deep, but not too deep.

The reason you cry when chopping onions is because you are crushing the cell structure of the onion and releasing the juice. The best way round this is to use a very sharp knife. Blunt knives=tears, also you are more likely to cut yourself with a blunt knife than a sharp one because you are putting more pressure on the knife for it to be able to cut, more chance of it slipping.
As for your finger wrap it in cling film/ saran wrap.

If you cut onion, only breath thru your mouth (keep your mouth open at all time while you are cutting)...not your nose....that will prevent you from crying.

to stop the bleeding, run cold water over it.
.

I'm not sure on the onion.

For the finger, I get it wet and wrap a piece of paper towel or napkin firmly around it. That seems to help.

First the bleeding. Wet a paper towel and wrap it around your finger. Hold your finger up above your head for about 5 minutes to clot. Be sure you don't need a stitch. if it keeps opening, you could try a butterfly bandage, if you have one. Always hold the finger above your heart to stop the blood flow.

Run water while cutting the onion, or keep a piece of bread in your mouth. Next time buy a sweet vidalia onion and that won't happen anymore.

To chop onions....
keep onions in fridge
sharp knife
when chopping do so while running water

Works for me

for the onion, cover the already chopped parts with a wet paper towel....as for the finger....i used super glue once until i could get to the dr...not advised under normal curcumstances though..try liquid bandaid
