I need some help with cakes and pies please!?!
Answers: How do you cut a pie or cake so your knife comes out clean and your product looks neat?
The trick that many people use for cutting cakes neatly also works well for meringues — keep a tall container of very hot water at your side as you cut the pie, and dip the blade of your knife into the water before every cut to keep the meringue from sticking.

You need to get the knife warm to prevent sticking. The easiest way is to dip the knife in a cup of hot water. But make sure to dry the blade or you might get crumbs everywhere.
Your second option is plain (as in not mint) waxed dental floss. This works for cakes not in a pan. Cut the dental floss a little longer than the length of the cake...hold it between both hands and slice it down to the base. This is really handy for round cakes with 2+ layers. Especially if you are trying to cut out a portion to send home with someone.
u may need to buy a special kind of knife for the cakes and pies.. it include skills in doing it so ur product comes out neat...
when cutting cake with icing always run your sharp knife thru some hot water then shake the water off the knife before cutting. Always cut your pies with a very sharp knife all thru the crusts and use a pie spatula it looks like a rectangle. That is how the professionals do it.
I'm in agreement with fishineeasy.
I always cut it the day after baking. Everything has settled and set, or have had ample time to chill. Even fruit pies, cheesecakes can be cut neatly then.
Who can wait for a day to eat some of your wonderful smelling cake? Just go on and cut it. Use a steak knife.Kinda saw it as you cut very slowly for pie. For cake you have to have a long sharp knife and do it quickly. LOL
