Substitution: BAKING POWDER,

1 tsp = 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 5/8 tsp cream of tartar

OR 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk (reduce liquid in recipe by 1/2 cup)

OR 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 3/8 cup molasses (reduce liquid in recipe by 1/4 cup; adjust sweetener)

OR 1 1/2 tsp phosphate or tartrate baking powder

mix everything else following the recipe. just before you pour it in the pan, put 1tsp baking soda in a small bowl. pour 1 tsp vinegar over that and add it to your cake mix before it stops fizzing. always works for me. i never have baking powder or cream of tartar so i use it on a fairly regular basis. tou can also just substitute self rising flour for all purpose and skip the powders, soda, and salt altogether.

borrow from a neighbor

Have your boyfriend do a run for you. U need that item, no substitutes.
