Making a pie crust: lard substitution?!
Answers: I have a recipe for making a pie crust I'd like to try out, but I'd rather not use lard. The recipe calls for several tablespoons of butter and lard to be mixed in to all purpose flour. Would crisco be an exceptable substitute for the lard?
crisco is totally fine measured the same as lard.
you probably know this but if all the ingredients are cold when you mix them, you will have a lot flakier better crust.
Crisco or butter are both good substitutes.

Crisco is the perfect substitute for lard in pie crust.
use all butter, all shortening, or (my fave) a combo of the two.

my mom like using the crisco butter when making ehr pie crust this way it had both the butter and lard not sure where you live or can buy it where your at but it very good for cooking .
Yes, you can use Crisco. Use it in the same increment as your recipe suggests for lard. Happy baking!
you can always use butter or crisco, but if you are looking for a more healthy substitution you can use olive oil. i am a student at the culinary institute of america and a teacher i had who is a certified master baker swears by it.
Crisco is fine, use it just like lard. BTW- if you're being health conscious, Lard isn't terrible for you if you just don't keep eating it all the time (like lots of foods). It does give pastry a texture you can't match with butter or crisco, and a different sort of richness.
