If I made some homemade chili, how can I reduce the spicy/peppery taste?!
Answers: I made it yesterday, it has pinto beans, chuck steak pieces, and various other ingredients (broths, garlic/onion powder, salt/pepper, cayenne, etc....) it tastes good, but it has a little bit of an extra "chili powder" or "spicy/peppery" taste. is there a way to reduce it just a little bit? it has approx 2 lbs of chuck steak, two cans pinto beans, 1 can tomato sauce. Recipe does say to add 1/2 teaspoon of brown sugar, which I did, maybe add more? or add some water? I am at a loss.
You can add a little sugar, that will help cut the spiciness. I think if you add more sugar, you should add a little more tomato sauce, too.
The brown sugar will actuaally just make it a little smoother but less hot. Molasses if you have some will tone it down a bit.
dont put peppers in it
Less cayenne
Cayenne peppers are extremely hot. When they are dried and put into powder they do not loose their potency. It is not something you want to sprinkle on for color, it will spice up even a large pot of chili. Check to see how much the recipe called for. Did you put in a Tablespoon rather than a teaspoon? Would make a huge difference if you did. Any ground or fresh hot peppers should be reduced.
leave it ! its probably great as is , just add chopped onions ,cheese and or sour cream !
drop in a raw peeled potato, let it simmer on low 20 min. Discard potato, it will have absorbed some of the spiciness.
try adding a can of tomatoes
Take a russet potatoe and peel. Cut in half and float it in the chili until it has absorbed enough of the spice.
