Can you use tomato sauce instead of tomato paste?!
Thanks
Answers: I am making Sloppy Joes and am using a packet for the seasoning, I have tomato sause and am wondering if you think its okay to use that instead of paste? I really don't feel like driving to the store for one thing..:)
Thanks
Yes. Usually there are directions on the packet to use either tomato sauce or tomato paste! You just increase the amt of tomato sauce and decrease the amt. of water.
tomato sauce is thinner than the paste so you won't get the same thick sauce that is use for sloppy joes.
Sure why not, use your imagination to make a delicious dish.
You will feel like the best gourmet cook.
Enjoy your dinner.
you will need less water with the tomato sauce because the tomato paste is much more concentrated.
Well tomato sauce is a lot thinner than the paste, so the sloppy joes will be really sloppy, but who says you have to follow recipes exactly. Should taste just as good but with a weaker tomato taste.
when I make spagetti bol I like to use a garlic and herb tomarto paste .....followed by a liberal dose of tomarto sauce.....it is just yummy, every one comments on the taste and is a family favorite.....I have just used tomarto sauce before, you just gotta add less water....though it doesnt taste the same I dont think as using tomarto paste. : )
Well, you can't actually. If you used sauce it'd be really weird and wouldn't taste the same, it'd be more runny. You should use tomatoe paste, it's thicker and it'd make the meat stick together better. I am sorry you have to go to the store but that's what happens I guess.
yes u can, just cook it longer and use less water
Yes, a 6 oz of tomato paste will equal to 16 oz tomato sauce..but if you mix it with a little bit of water to make the sloppy joe's
Tomato sauces generally have vinegar and sugar as well as spices included, so you possibly need to consider adjusting for this
My advice? Use ketchup if you can't find tomato paste. Tomato sauce is waaay too thin, and a lot of sauces are pre-seasoned to be used in Italian dishes. Tomato sauce is neither the right consistency, nor the right flavor.
Also, never have I seen a recipe for Sloppy Joes that calls for water. Vinegar maybe, water no. Actually many recipes i have seen call for ketchup and NOT tomato paste. But you're welcome to experiment and try again if it doesn't come out exactly. Cooking isn't rocket science.
