Urgent Q on eggs?!

Question: if an egg is off, does it sink or float?
i had this conversation with a friend just the other day, and we could'nt remember.
I was just about to boil 2 eggs... one is sitting on the bottom (as usual i thought) and the other is floating!!! lol
i don't wanna boil it and bother checking, not to mention sparing myself the smell :)
thanks a bunch

the floating egg is no good. Please throw it out because I do not want you to get sick if you eat it.

Floating = old.

Place the egg in a bowl of water. If it is very fresh it will lie on the bottom of the bowl on its side. If it is a little older it may stand on one end on the bottom of the bowl. An old egg will float. This works because as an egg ages moisture is lost through the shell and the air sac found at one end of the egg expands, the bigger the air sac the more the egg floats.

Eggs that float are not good to eat.

86 the floater!

Ditch the floater!

They are not good if they float...86
