Smithfield, Hormel, Armour have packages of PRE-COOKED beef tips, roast, pot roast, pork roast, chicken, ham, meatload. Use this for your meat dish with a side dish or two of vegetables, rice, or potatoes. You will find these packages near the meat section, they are not frozen.
Tyson's fully cooked whole chickens are delicious. I serve them often with S&W canned sweet potatoes, Stove-Top dressing, microwave chicken/turkey gravy, a vegetable, cranberry sauce, and Pillsbury Microwave Biscuits which are better than I can make. A frozen pie defrosted and fully cooked. Perfect for one or two people at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

You can buy a roasted chicken or two at your supermarket's deli section. They also have all types of salads and vegetables already cooked.
Another thing you can do is cook in a slow cooker or a crock-pot. You put the meat meal into the crock-pot in the morning and it cooks all day long. The meal is ready at dinner time. Be sure to read the booklet that comes with the crock-pot. Here are some recipes for you:

a very large bag of pasta, some cheeses, some meats, canned work just as well. and some canned cream of soups. oh yes, don't forget some canned veggies!!
this works good:
1 cup pasta, cook according to directions and drain.
toss in a can of cream of whatever you like, mushroom, celery, split pea, chicken, etc.
a cup of diced cheese or shredded cheese
drain a can of veggies, i like green beans or peas.
this should feed you for 2 days or serve 4 to 6 people.
reheat in microwave covered, in the oven or in a skillet stirring constantly. or eat it cold, it is just as good that way.
growing up our family didnt have much so we seemed to always have the same meals over and over but they are still sooo good and i crave them at times... try goulash the way we made it was with one pound of ground beef, cooked. and a box of pasta (2 depending on size) one large can and one regular size can of tomato sauce. thats it!! cook the pasta cook the meat throw it all in one pot and heat it up....also try adding some frozen corn or ranch style beans if its available to you. plenty of left overs to eat on for a couple of days. and its basic but try adding spices or other veggies/beans to make it to your liking!
ramen noodles ith cheese !! Ramen noodles with green beans!! Ramen noodles w/brocolli, Ramen noodle casserole. aldi brand tuna helper ,aldi brand soups, good old fashioned ham & beans very affordable & left overs for a day or 2, also meatless spaghetti is good & fast too !!
I'm a college student also but i go to community college but still live at home and to help out with the food budget i buy my own food. Now the best thing to do is make a food budget. Or go to wal mart or SAMS and buy in bulk. Also look for speciall like 2 for 1. But ramen noodles and canned foods are good. Look for store brands because they are cheap and what ever you get be creative.
Oh my gosh if you eat the way the other posters are suggesting you'll have high blood pressure in no time...talk about an abundance of SALT!! You can eat well (cheaply) and still stay healthy. IF you can afford it, google a book called "CHEAP, FAST, GOOD". It's excellent and a paperback copy should not set you back. ALWAYS use low salt broth, and no salt canned tomatoes and other canned items; there are many companies finally coming around to the low salt/no salt idea. Good luck!
Red Kidney beans, "Baked Beans" and frozen peas are all very cheap. So is canned pineapple and fresh onions. And so is a really big bag of rice. Fry the pineapple with equal amount of slicing onions and spice with green cardamon (get the seeds out of the pods with a sharp knife.) Now's the time to add a bit of minced meat or cubed pork whatever is knocked down in price. (pigeons used to be really cheap with loads of good meat on the breast.)Give it ten minutes. Add a drained can of kidney beans and baked beans with all the sauce. Simmer for another fifteen if there's meat in there, less if not. You can use frozen peas instead of the cans of beans. The pineapple really makes it, and you can spice it up with a bag of chili seeds or powder in the cupboard.
fifteen if there's meat in there to cook it through
There is always chili and stew.
Here's is my recipe for chili
1 pound burger
2 cloves chopped garlic
1 onion chopped
1 can diced stewed tomatos
1 can kidney beans
Chili Powder
2 teaspoons cumin
seasoned salt
*I can corn optional
Cook the burger add the onions and garlic when beef is about 1/2 way done. Drain the meat and put in a cook pot or stock pot. Add the toms, beans, and corn. Add chili powder to taste depending on how strong of flavor you like. add cumin and seasoned salt to taste.
To do larger batches just double as needed. If you double try adding other beans with the kidney, such as navy, black, small red etc.. This adds a little different color and testure.
Top with a dallop of sour cream, cheese and onions of you like.
If you have any left overs boil spagetti and use the chili as a sauce.
Nice Hot Stew:
1 pd stew meat or even hamburger
1 large carrots or 2 small
1 small onion or 1/2 large
1-2 ribs celery
1 clove garlic
1 can diced stewed tomatos with liquid
Flour
Seasoned salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder/Salt, Onion Salt/Powder, Celery salt
Oil
1 or 2 bay leaves
Oil
Mix the seasonings with the flour, and season the flour pretty heavily as it will be the main seasoning for your for your stew. Dredge the meat in the flour mix and then fry in hot oil, you could even sprinkle a little extra flour in the oil to help make a nice kind of roux. When the meat is cooked add to a tall pan with the veggies and bay leaves. You may need to add a little more water. Simmer on low heat for 3-4 hours or in a crock pot all day long.
If you are using hambuger then fry the burger and drain, then add to the veggies. Save the oil and sprinkle in some seasoned flour to make a roux (or use can buse butter) you want apprix equal parts fat and flour, wait until it is has thickened and is bubbly. Then add the the meat and veggie mix.
If you don't want a thick stew then just season the meat and dry with out the flour, then add to the veggies.
Shepards Pie:
1 pound hamburger
1 16oz frozen mixed veggies, thawed
1 cup brown gravy homemeade or instant
2 cups mashed potatos home made or instant
4 oz cream cheese
2 cloves garlic minced garlic
1 1/2 cups shredded chedder cheese
Cook burger and drain, add the veggies and gravy mix.
Mix 1/2 cup of the shredded cheese, garlic, and cream cheese with the mashed potatos.
Pour the meat mix into a 9x9 baking dish and top with the mashed potatoes. Spread them out it doesn't matter if the potatoes are perfectly even, then sprinkle with the remaining cheese on top. Cover and bake at 375 for about 20 min. Then turn oven to broil and uncover, Remove when the cheese is nice and browned.
Lemon Garlic Chicken.
Use boneless breasts, or any other type cut of chicken even if it does have the bone.
Butter or margerine
Chopped garlic
Fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Sorry this is a recipe that I always eyeball. Place the chicken in a baking dish. Mix the butter/margerine, garlic, and lemon in a pan or microwave safe dish. Melt the butter, then drizzle it over the chicken. Bake at 350 for about 20-30 minutes or until the juice run clear. Serve with rice.
B-B-Q Chicken
Use the same type of chicken as above.
Use your favorite (or cheaspest) B-B-Q sauce
Place the chicken in a baking dish and top with B-B-Q then bake at 350 for abotu 20-30 min.
Itallian Chicken:
Marinate wiche ever cut of chicken you want with some itallion dressing in a plastic resealabe bag for at least 1 hour or even over night.
Bake at 350 for 20-30 min.
You can also freeze and marinte the chicken in any of the sauces/dressings above and put them in a freezer bag. As the chicken freezes and then thaws at a later date with will get a great flavor. So buy in but then break portions down to a size that you will eat. You can also do the same thing with the chili and stews, and then buy some personal "take and toss" alumnium pans. Freeze them in idvidual oortions, take them out of the freezer the night or morning before and bake them.
Also go to www.kraftfoods.com it's a great site and will send you a free mag every 3 months.
