Got a recipe that calls for 1/2 lb of ziti. To me, that means 8 oz, which is 1 cup. Am I correct?!

Question: A cup of pasta simply doesn't sound like very much food....it's for a lasagna-type dish for an 8x8 baking dish. Thanks, all.

Weight ounces and liquid ounces are different. There are 16 ounces(weight)in a pond and 8 ounces(liquid)in a cup.I do not know off the top of my head how you could convert these.
http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/wei... that is the link to a weight to volume website.I put in 8 ounces and got 7.669 fl oz(fluid ounces) which is yes, about a cup.

16 ounces is 1 pound, so yes, 8 ounces or 1 cup is 1/2 lb

Doesn't sound right to me. It's asking for 1/2 lb weight that isn't equal to a cup.

When it comes to ounces and weight, you can't merely say because it's half a pound it's a cup. I would say either use 1/2 the box, or weigh it on a scale.

There are two kinds of ounces - one to measure volume ( 8 oz = 1 cup, also called fluid ounce) and the other to measure weight (16 oz = 1 lb). So 8 oz in weight doesn't equal half cup for all ingredients. It would be better to weigh the ingredients

1/2lb of ziti is half a box or 8oz yes and it will feed 4 people once cooked.

It is not. Hooray for the English system, but a fluid oz isn't the same as an ounce weight.

You need 8 oz by weight.

if you measure out one cup of ziti, you'll starve to death.
a package is 16 ounces right?
1/2 a box is 8 ounces not to be confused with a liquid measurement. which would be one cup.
you need a half a box.
your right a cup isn't much food.
good luck to ya.

Yes. 1/2 lb=8 oz=1 cup

Good luck with the recipe.

The recipe is calling for 8 ounces of UNCOOKED ziti, unless it specifies otherwise. In this case, you would use 8 ounces by weight, not by volume.

In other words, one-half of a 1-pound box.

You can "eyeball" it, and it will be close enough (unless you have an accurate scale, in which case---by all means---use it).

Half of a box..... should be 8 oz.

No, you are confusing volume ounces with weight ounces. Two different things, esp. for raw pasta.

Pasta is sold by weight, so you need 8 oz. by weight, or a half a pound. Most pasta is sold in 1-pound increments, so use half of a package.

You just need half the box. One cup of pasta will be nothing in an 8 X 8 dish. You are thinking fluid ounces, but the recipe calls for dry .

This is talking about 8 oz by weight, not by volume. 8oz=half pound. Usually this is a half of a package.
