Can you boil hamburger meat with your pasta?!

Question: Can you fry your meat in a pan and then boil it along with your pasta (as you do with hamburger helpers)? Thanks!

When I make pasta, I skip frying the ground beef. I drop it in large chunks into a pot of water, boil for one hour and then drain. You can then break up the chunks of meat and add it to your sauce. You then season the sauce to your liking. Yes, boiled hamburger meat does sound gross, but it makes the meat so tender, not chewy like fried hamburger meat.

I wouldn't.

Ewww. That sounds disgusting.

It is safe to do healthwise, but it probably wont taste as good.

it goes in the sauce.

It would taste better to cook separate and then mix them together.

Hamburger helper specifically designed their products to be cooked together, as they are ALL basically "par cooked", that means that they are fully cooked or are 3/4 way there. If you are doing this from scratch, at home, the rules of the game are different. So, your pasta will have to be cooked "al dente" and your protein, cooked fully before combining them. HH's thicken sauce is usually dried cheese and herbs, but you are using fresh cheese, so that also effects your process. A common thickening ingredient is a "roux" equal parts of heated flour and butter, or a slurry (corn starch and cold water) you will have to make either one of these to thicken your sauce. Trust me, when you look up some of these homemade recipes like HH has put into a box, you'll be amazed at the taste difference. Yes, the timing is a little longer..........but to me, there's no comparison. Happy Cooking! Renee

if you want to but it would probally taste bad

That's not a good idea, it would spread and become messy and icky.

yes but as with hamburger helper you add powder to absorb the water to make the sauce.... plus you bring it to boil then turn it down to simmer..... with regular pasta you are boiling water meat and pasta.. i would think you would boil the flavor out of the meat
