Question about cooking an egg in a mirowave?!

Question: I was once in an airport and order a breakfast sandwich. The guy cracked and egg and put it in a cup with a lid on it. He then put it in the microwave. When he pulled it out, the egg was very fluffy and expanded so that it took the shape of the cup. He then put this on my bagel with ham and cheese on it etc. It was so incredible! The egg was really good. It wasn't slimy like most poached eggs and the yolk and the whites were throughly mixed. I have tried to replicate this and keep exploding the egg in my microwave- Is there something special about the cup he used? Was there something else in the cup? Anyone know the secret?

LOL! I just did this ten minutes ago for a quick lunch. I have been doing it for years and always tell my friends it is one of my best college cooking tips!

I use a regular coffee cup spray it with a little PAM and add the egg. I beat the egg a little bit with a fork to help break up the yolk. I microwave it on medium for about 30-40 seconds. If is not quite done, do it again for 10-20 seconds. Doing it on lower heat in smaller time intervals will help keep it from exploding and will help make it fluffy. When you are done it should look just like the one you had at the airport. I toast up a bagel, add some bacon, and cheese and you have a gourmet bagel sammy in a hurry!

You have to break the yellow part and mix it together. Then you'll be fine.

yeah I do this all the time....I love the Heri-eggs at heritages! You have to beat the egg before you put it in the mic. Just scramble the egg and put in the mic for like 1-1/2 mins. Then I put cheese on top of it and turn it back on for 30 secs, pop in onto a bagel and its good to go!

He probably broke the yoke. I scramble mine slightly B4 nuking to do the same thing, make a sandwich.

Beat the egg well before placing it into your vessel. Spray the vessel with oil spray. Top with a paper plate and microwave. They will fluff up incredibly. Since mocrowaves vary WATCH it. It wont explode, even though you'll hear little noises. My micro takes about 2 minutes for 1 egg.

I have something called an EggWave. Its like a small egg shaped cup with a lid. all you do is mix up your egg and pour it in and cook it in the microwave and they are really fluffy. plus no grease or water to add. I found it on a website called As Seen On TV.com. hope this helps

I "break" the yolk with a fork and add 1/2 tsp of water. Then I cook it for 30 seconds, wait, 20 seconds, wait, 20 seconds.

I think you are cooking it too long. Simply mix up a scrambled egg, or loosely break up the yolk and put into a coffee cup. Start at 30 second intervals and take out when starts expanding.

Yup....all are right and I like Poyzunus answer... she remembered to tell you to spray the container and only cover lightly.
