What else is healthy for my kids for lunch?!
Answers: im making sloppy joe's with tator tots. i want something else healthy in the lunch what is something i should make? it need to be kinda simple. please write down recipes if there is any. thanks!
I usually make macaroni and cheese (Kraft out of the box)
with Sloppy Joes & tator tots!
My kids LOVE that meal.
Don't listen to all the health freaks, kids need the bread, meat, potatoes unless they're overweight. Mine aren't and
they eat all kinds of "fattening" homemade meals!!
If you have a jar of cinnamon applesauce, they'd like that!
(or a side of cottage cheese??)
Something that is actually healthy. What you have mentioned already is not. I suggest - some fruit: like a snack bag of grapes or an apple, orange or banana. Some veggies: carrot sticks or celery.
How about just adding a fruit or vegetable, like carrot sticks with ranch or a sliced apple.
Sloppy joes with tator tots is not healthy! How about a thermos of home made soup? A turkey sandwich on whole grain bread? A tuna and salad wrap? Even peanut butter and no sugar jam is better than sloppy joes and tator tots.
For a healthy snack, make your own Trail Mix using a combination of any or all of the following:
Dried cranberries
Dried cherries
Raisins
Dates
Fancy Mixed Nuts - salted or unsalted, your choice
Dried Mango
Dried Papaya
Coconut flakes
M&Ms
Banana chips
Apple chips
Dried Peaches
Dried Blueberries
Granola
Keep in a sealed container or ZipLock bags to keep fresh.
For healthy lunches, I like turkey, beef or ham with cheese and lettuce sandwiches or wraps made with tortilla shells - make your sandwiches on whole wheat or multigrain bread and use whole wheat tortilla shells; salads with the dressing on the side; homemade chicken or tuna salad using just enough Miracle Whip or mayo to hold the ingredients together; celery sticks, baby carrots, radishes, cherry or grape tomatoes with some salad dressing on the side for dipping...
Turkey sandwich, apple, baked chips.
How about some veggies with dip, try grilled cheese sandwich with chocolate milk, try fruit salad as a snack(make it, don't buy it since the ones in the store are loaded with sugar), you could make mini subs. Hope this helps!
kids usually love fruits and veggies cut up with something to dip it in, like ranch dressing or peanut butter....peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are pretty healthy and are good for giving them energy to run around....maybe some chicken tacos or something, i don't know...there are cookbooks out there with healthy ideas for kids in them
Instead of putting the sloppy joe on a bun, since you are already having a starch(tator tots), put lettuce in a bowl, tator tots and sloppy joe over that and sprinkle with alittle cheddar. Serve with any vegetable that you have, cold or hot.
can thel lunches be refrigerated, or are they left out at room temp. chicken and tuna salad is great but instead of putting it on bread to get soggy use crackers instead. add some pears and cottage cheese. what about soups, you could put it in a large mouth thermos.
www.campbellkitchen.com is a great website for any meal. Choose lunch in the drop down menu. In the drop down menu for sorting the recipes, choose Wellness Recipes. There are pretty quick and simple recipes to choose from.
I would serve carrots sticks, milk and fresh fruit for dessert.
I don't know why people are saying that a sloppy joe and tater tots are not healthy. That's a serving of meat, veggie, and grains. Even a pizza can be healthy if you make it right.
P.S.
Thanks ally <3 I like that website
What your serveing is not unhealthy, but probably boreing day after day. Simple would be pb&j sandwiches, lunch meat, grilled cheese and soup. some fresh veggies with a dip, depending what your children enjoy. Fresh fruit for dessert or afternoon snack, before dinner.
Use a whole grain bun for the sloppy joes. Throw away the tator tots. Or just give them to your husband if he MUST have them. They have no redeeming qualities. It's not fair to kids to give them unhealthy food. Make some brown rice or a baked potato for the kids. Cut up some carrots and celery for the side. To P@r@dise: Kids DO need bread, meat, and potatoes. But you can do it in a way that isn't doing a such a disservice to them! Whole grain bread and pasta, chicken, turkey or lean beef, and baked potatoes or oven baked potato wedges. There is more to being healthy than just being at a healthy weight. Kids need real nutrition, or you're still setting them up for health problems down the line, even if they're a healthy weight. My skinny tiny little sister has high cholesterol. She's a teenager. It's not that uncommon anymore. That is what eating like that does to you.
