Answers: Please list some of your favorite "comfort foods"!

The term comfort food refers to a style of familiar, simple food or drink that is usually home-cooked, or consumed in informal restaurants.
Description
Comfort food is typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easy to prepare. Many people turn to comfort food for familiarity, emotional security, or special reward. The reasons a dish becomes a comfort food are diverse but often include pleasant associations of childhood. Small children often seem to latch on to a specific food or drink (in a way similar to a security blanket) and will repeatedly request it in high stress situations. Adults eat comfort food for a sense of continuity.

Comfort foods are typically composed largely of simple or complex carbohydrate, such as sugar, rice, refined wheat, and so on.

The term "comfort food" was added to the Webster's Dictionary in 1972.

Many comfort foods are regional in nature, such as fried chicken and barbecue in the American South, or a hotdish or other casserole in the Upper Midwest, and hoagies and scrapple sandwiches in parts of the East Coast. Chili, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and some version of a stew or heavy beef dish are comfort foods nearly everywhere. Various cultural groups in the United States have their own comfort foods, for example tacos for those from Mexico or the American Southwest. Many comfort foods once considered "ethnic" have become mainstream and accepted as American fare. For example, Vietnamese immigrants brought ph? and Bánh mì to the United States, and residents from throughout Asia brought Taiwanese Bubble tea, all of which are becoming common comfort foods, particularly in the West Coast. Because the term is so regional and subjective, it is impossible to compile a full list.

And depending on your age......due to the fact there different fast foods today, also a million different bottled drinks...everyone has a different preference to what makes them feel good (comfort foods)

Comfort food should be warm, filling and satisfying. Ideally it should be food that brings back happy memories, like sunday dinners at Grandmas or your favorites as a child. For me the top three are: Chicken and Dumplings, Mostaccioli and Green Bean Soup (all for the reasons stated above). Good Q.

My favorite comfort food is Macaroni and cheese, especially KFC's Mac and Cheese.

Biscuits and gravy
Creamy soups.
Homemade Pot Pies are the best however........Anything goes and you get to decide!

i believe the definition should be," a nice name for foods that are bad for you"

Comfort food is generally something you associate from your past. It frequently can be the simplest of meals that you no longer have on a regular basis as you mature.
On rare occassions I crave:
-tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich
-meatloaf and mashed potatoes
-chocolate marshmallow ice cream

macaroni and cheese
baked egg custard
meatloaf
chicken and dumplings
rice pudding

I love Minute steaks Floured with Italian seasonings, and then browned in olive oil. Then I add a can of tomatoes and let it simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. I serve this with some mashed Potatoes. With the tomato gravy over all. MMMMMM so good.

Chicken pot pie, french onion soup.

For me, "comfort food" is food my Mother used to make. Things like meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, tuna casserole, soft oatmeal cookies, beef stew, Swiss steak, bread pudding, roast beef, fried chicken, chocolate cake with real fudge frosting. I'm glad I have a lot of her recipes so I can make those things!

I try not to take comfort in food. He is a fickle master and usually makes me regret it. But some favorite foods are:

homemade mashed potatoes & homemade gravy
my grandmother's pot roast
grilled lobster tail w/ drawn butter
scones
shortbread cookies

chocolate

I think comfort foods are tastes and textures that speak to your inner stress. My dad's bbq, my chocolate chip cookies, for my kids its my meatloaf and mashed potatoes or simply my mashed potatoes. I find a good hamburger does more for my state of mind than just about anything else. Fresh strawberries in the spring, a home grown beefsteak tomato over the summer and my pumpkin pie with freshly whipped cream at Thanksgiving.

I like to make a hash brown potato dish with creamed soup and sour cream and cheese in it. I call it comfort potatoes. Simple one dish meals that are soothing to eat like homemade hamburger helper with noodles and what ever veggies I have on hand. Simple food simply prepared.
