What does egg whites or whole egg whites mean?!


Question: I have the P90X nutrition plan and it says for one recipe that I need 8 egg whites. Does that mean a normal egg, but I take the yolk out?

And for another recipe is says 6 whole egg whites. Does that mean I make 6 eggs WITH the yolk?

That seems like an awful lot of eggs to me.

the clear part of the egg not the yolks the parts that turn white when you cook them, yes you take the yolk out which can be tricky if you dont know how

1. crack the egg carefully hand pour into your hand allowing white to go through fingers whilst retaining yolk in the palm of the hand and discard

2. crack egg in half and pass yolk between the 2 shells which will allow the white to fall into the bowl

tip. it may be best so seperate the white over a spare bowl incase the yolk breaks and falls in

the yolk contains high cholesterol which is why it isnt needed

Egg whites and whole egg whites are the same thing. I'm not sure why some recipes use different wording like that, but yea...just omit the yolks.

Egg whites are everything but the yolks. I have never heard of something calling for whole egg whites. That is kind of confusing. It is usually either whites or whole eggs. And yes that does sound like a lot to me too.

You are right you use JUST the egg whites in either of them, they just have it worded differently in both.

It is a lot of eggs. You can buy egg substitutes like "egg beaters" which are 99% egg whites only. You dont use yolks for the recipes that you want. "Egg beaters"would be my choice as it is with my diet. You should be fine.

That means u use the egg whites of six eggs, no yolks. Any reference in cooking that refers to the whites rather than or along side eggs means just you'd be using just the whites or preparing them separately from the yolks. If it's a nutrition plan then most definitely no egg yolks. They're trying to give you some good protein w/o the saturated fat and cholesterol that are contained in the yolk. Eight egg whites would be about a half cup of liquid. Eight egg whites sounds like more than it actually is, whites make up a little more (67%) than half the eggs content, about a Tablespoon plus a teaspoon per egg white.

**NO** if they specify whites, it's only whites. if they say "whole eggs", then it's the egg white + egg yolk, or crack it and use what comes out.

Take the yolk out(yellow) and you have egg whites

Looks like you got this answered but I am going to suggest if you have a dog to give the egg yokes to them, mixed in with their food. I hate wasting all those yokes.
