Boiled/steamed eggs?!
Answers: I just got an egg poacher which has a basket and 4 egg slots that can be removed...it says on the box not only can you poach eggs you can also have boiled eggs in it..it says to put the poacher in a sauspan with a little water and steam them for 3 mins soft or 6 mins hard...how can they cook if they are not in the water?.....wouldn't steaming the eggs take longer? I usually boil my eggs for 10 mins for hard boiled...thanks
for boiling your eggs are you counting the time it takes for the water to boil???
as mine take about that long as I put the eggs in cold water but once the water boils I only cook them for 5 Min's for hard boiled any longer and you will get green around the yolk
as for the egg poacher I have one
and they are only counting the time that the water is boiling.
you put the water in the bottom of the pan and
put in the tray
put the lid on the pot and put it on the stove on high
while that is starting to get hot
take the egg cups and put a bit of butter in each cup
then crack and egg in each one
once the water is boiling add the egg cups
enjoy :)
If you're boiling them for 10 minutes, you're killing them... And steam can get hotter than water. Think about it: once water goes above 100 degrees C, how can it get any hotter? Turn to steam! I'd reduce your boiling for hard-boiled eggs to 5 minutes, but give your steamer a try- the worst that can happen is you waste a few eggs and make a small mess. It's a new toy, go play with it! Good luck
