How much cooking time must you add when stuffing a whole chicken?!


Question: I will be roasting a 5 lb chicken for aproxamately 1 1/2 hours at 350 which is suggested, however, I want to stuff my chicken. How much more time should be added taking the stuffing into consideration?

it depends,if you use a magic spell, the cooking time remains the same, however, for better taste, i would use lightning strikes instead, and you'll have to use 2-3 more than usual when stuffed

Probably an extra 45 minutes. You want the internal temperature of the stuffing and the chicken to reach 165.

I usually cook my stuffing in a side dish, and I add a can of chicken broth to it. It doesn't change the flavour much, but everything cooks faster and completely.

the problem with stuffing a chicken is that the extra time needed to cook it completely usually overcooks the rest of the bird and dries it out....i always opt to make the dressing on the side/

I suggest that you cook the stuffing separately from the bird. Cook the stuffing about half way then put the stuffing in and cook the bird as normal. That way the bird isn't dried out from over cooking it, and the stuffing is cooked to a nice texture.
