Anyone know a recipe for batter that tastes like long john silvers batter?!
2/3 cup club soda
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 egg
1/2 cup Bisquick
1/2 cup self-rising flour
Beat all ingredients together until smooth; let stand 10 minutes.
Heat oil to 385 degrees F.
In small bowl put 1/2 cup club soda, in another 1/2 cup self-rising flour. Dip fish first into soda, then into flour. Set fish on cookie sheet till all the fish has been coated; let dry a few minutes.
Dip fish in batter, let excess drip off; and deep fry 3 or 4 minutes per side. Shrimp can be done the same way if peeled and deveined first.

I think it's just your basic beer batter.
INGREDIENTS
3 eggs
3/4 cup beer
1 1/2 cups milk
4 cups pastry flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons cornstarch
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 pounds cod fillets
2 quarts vegetable oil for frying
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch.
In a large bowl, beat together eggs and milk. Mix in beer. Stir in flour mixture. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
In an electric deep fryer or a heavy saucepan, heat oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Coat fish in batter, and submerge in hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 4 to 5 minutes. Serve.
Well, I dont know how they make their batter...but I'll give you a recipe for beer batter that is seriously...OUT OF THIS WORLD...I have never tasted a better batter in my life...it also goes great with onion rings, shrimp, scallops...but nothing that takes too long to cook because the batter will scorch if left frying too long!! Heres the recipe...
1/2 cup beer
1 cup biscuit mix (i recommend bisquick)
1 egg
salt
Extra bisquick for dusting...
first coat seafood or onions with extra bisquick...combine the rest of the ingredients in a bowl...dip fish, shrimp, etc etc in the batter...and fry in veg oil. ITS AWESOME! (if the batter is too thick..add a little splash of beer to thin it out a bit)
Let me know what you think!! Whenever I make this there are ABSOLUTELY NO leftovers!! It is soooo incredibly crispy!
ps...u might want to salt the fish a bit
The recipe I am giving you is an all purpose batter. I use it for fish, sliced fruit( apples, bananas) chicken nuggets.
1 cup flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt or more if needed
2 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salad oil
1 cup water
This is a crispy batter that can be used for just about anything.
Whisk all ingredients together. Dip fish chunks, scallops or shrimps etc. into the batter with tongs and drop into hot oil. Fry until golden brown.
