I don't bother with them, I just use garlic, butter and a teaspoon of Sherry......getting overly fussy with escargot isn't necessary......I serve mine in sauteed mushroom caps and then broiled for about 30 seconds, topped with just a sprinkle of freshly chopped flat leaf parsley..........YUM......

No, not if you don't like that taste. I do like shollots, green oinions or chives on about everything I make but some people do not. It will take away from the appearance to, but you could but use some dried parsley or something if you just want the green color.

I think so - but then I like onions in damn near anything!

The onion or shallot flavor give alittle more something to the dish, I believe in some cases shallots have more of a stronger taste.

yes, it does add flavor, but u do not have to..if its easier for u not to, dont need to do it..

I use butter and garlic, that's it.

I heat them in a pan with garlic and butter and make sure I have a loaf of crusty bread for tearing apart and dipping in the juices.

You don't HAVE to add anything to a dish if you don't like it or have it on hand. As long as you have butter (real butter) and garlic you can't go wrong.
