Come on.... who else think using a crock pot to cook is just that.... a crock?!
Answers: i mean if I have to leave something to cook for 8 to 10 hrs and still have to stir or add other ingredients, it ain't worth it, even when u cook a big meal including beans, rice and a roast, it'll only take you at the most, at least 3 hrs
I agree that it still takes just as much time in preparation.
But it is handy for someone who works all day, or is gone for a long amount of time - you prep, fill the crockpot, and leave... then you come back home and your meal is ready. You don't have to worry about leaving the oven on while you are gone all day, at least.
It works if you work outside the home. I put it in the crock pot in the morning, when I get home at night, it's ready.
I use a crock pot.
I agree -- and they do NOT cook a pot roast well -- they lose all their taste....it's better to cook one in the oven at a low heat for a longer period of time honestly.
People say it's safe to leave on, but If I'm not going to be home I never do. So I'm with you. I just use the stove.
It sure saves on clean up time! There are those disadvantages you have to mention....but besides that it is much simpler than having to cook numerous foods at one time ;)
I can't rave enough about crock pots. They are time consuming and awesome. When cooking meat, it literally just falls off the bone and Is tender as.
I will cook in a crock pot on occasion, it makes for an easy meal. Especially not that you can buy crockpot meals in the grocery store. I but a roast or whatever I am wanting to make in the crock pot in the morning and then when I get home from work dinner is basicly ready.
So don't use it! A crock pot is great for certain things....not all things. You're obviously not looking at how the crock pot should be used and what it's used for otherwise you'd see it's value!
You apparently don't have a job and life where you have to be away from home for a sizable amount of time and you will have a hungry family when you get home.
I get home about 6. I pop whatever you are offering as soon as I get home. Do I tell my family they cannot eat until 9?
Not all foods require a crock, but crocks come in handy.
I love crock pots! They are SO easy throw it in there stir it every once in awhile and Dinner is done!
But if you can put a slab of meat, and all your veggies, into a crock pot, turn it on and walk into the house at the end of the day to a hot, complete dinner, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Plus the crock pot uses less energy than an oven.
But if you are home all day and can play with your stove, perhaps the convenience isn't that important to you.
I think that it's a waste of energy to have something going for that long and for example when you cook a stew for 6 hours and the veggies aren't even cooked!
There are many divorced parents that have to work. Sometimes way past their school aged kids' and teens' dinner time. Crock pots give these kids a safe hot healthy meal to serve themselves when the parents cannot get home on time. Many a teenager has to take care of younger brothers and sisters. Crock pots and microwaves are safer that gas and electric stoves.
I use a crock pot. i love to eb able to come home from work and find dinner done .
They are best reserved for certain dishes, IMO, like tough cuts of beef or pork. Many touch cuts respond well to low and slow moist-heat cooking methods. You just have to plan ahead w/ a slow cooker.
I don't have one .I just cook large portions and freeze them for use on nights I don't have much time to prepare a meal.I am sure they come in handy for many reasons, but I have not felt the need
You apparently have a lot of time to cook. I work until 6:15 every night, and have kids still in school, so a meal at 9:00 or 10:00 just doesn't work. I can put the stuff in before I go to work, and when I come home, all I need to do is take out the liquid, make gravy, and serve. We can eat within 1/2 hour of when I get home.
NOT ME!!! I love my crock pot. You just have the wrong recipes!
