What to cook when my daughter (7) has a friend round to play after school?!

Question: They're all impossible! I knew a pair of sisters where one only ate cheese and the other only tomato (or so it seemed). Meat's out for one or two. Pasta (usually safe) has been refused recently. I can't mention the 'F' word (fish) unless it's followed by 'finger'. What's a good (quick, cheap, tasty) dish to cook? Please NO ONE say pizza!

Chicken goujons, cut a chicken breast into strips, dunk in beaten egg, then dunk in some breadcrumbs (you can buy these from the supermarket) chuck in the oven until golden and cooked all the way through.
Cut a potato into wedges, drizzle with some oil and chuck in oven until cooked, alternatively use frozen potato wedges or oven chips.
Add vegtable or salad depending on what the children like/dislike. This meal is healthier than supermarket versions as you know the chicken is not mushed up rubbish and it really shouldn't take that long. The goujons are delicious too!!!

Super Noodles

Beans on toast with cheese on top. I loved that when I was a kid, still do!

OH I have the same problem, usually chips or roast potatoes ( Aunt Bessie ) gravey and 4 pieces of bread works for me, if not theres always MCdonalds

As long as no one has an allergy to peanuts, I've never had any seven year old turn down a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You make it just like a grilled cheese, but with pb&j...they're completely delicious and the kids will all go back and tell their mums what a great cook you are! Just throw in glasses of milk and cut up fresh fruit...that's nutritious enough for one meal.

get the pancakes going fill them up with these bet you dont get any complaints

Hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls and baked in the oven :)

If meat is not an option, veggie hot dogs are a great replacement.

GRILLED CHEESE with you favorite deli meat inside.
GROUND turkey/hamburg meat (which ever you prefer) add some red or green pepper, lettuce, cheese, and taco kit in a box and enjoy some easy TACOS!!!!

An omlette each with onion and a topping of there choice.
Omlettes are great for kids, healthy and tasty!

what wrong with fish fingers thats what im having

I have a 6 year old daughter and have similar issues. One thing I noticed is all kids like franks and fries. I buy all beef, nitrate free, they don't notice all the missing preservatives.

Another thing my daughter and I both like to do is make an appetizer tray for them. A few veggies and dip, some cheese and crackers, fruit and yogurt, pepperoni, ham, you get the point. A square meal doesn't have to mean something traditional.

I know you said no pizza, but pizza is something we make. It takes up some time and they actually like it. Generally I use english muffins and the kids are thrilled. They sit by the oven and watch them cook through the window.

This is a relatively new favorite, although I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. Chicken wings. I buy them whole and have my husband chops them in pieces because the ones in the bag are injected with saline solution. Honestly, it wouldn't bother me for a crowd, just not more than once a week. We seem to be eating them a lot laterly though. Just season the chicken with salt and pepper and bake them off. Serve with sides of bbq, ketchup, ranch, whatever they like. Kids like small food they can dress themselves. I do the same with burgers. Make mini burgers and serve them on dinner rolls instead of burger buns. Give them ketchup, cheese, pickles, etc. on the side.

Also french toast sticks with turkey or beef sausage. They love this, but it gets sticky with more than 2 kids.

Is this for a snack after school....or an all nighter....Gosh we only got snacks...not a meal....
Here is a different and fun one:
Do you get flour tortillas where you live???
If so....lay out the tortilla....spread it with softened cream cheese...not alot...just enough to make it all the way to the edges and about 1/8th" thick.
Sprinkle this with Spike...a non-salt Seasoning...or Cavendish's Seasoning....this has pepper in it though and kids may not like it...Spike yes.
Lay on a layer of either or both....thin sliced ham and turkey, thinly sliced tomato slices....(when this is done they probably wont know the tomatoes are there)
Next lay on a mild white cheese, like Baby Swiss....top this with Green leaf lettuce leaves.....Then gently roll up jelly roll style....snuggly.....Cut in 1/2-3/4" slices and lay out on a plate with fruit slices, such as apples, cantaloupe.
This is different and nutritious....and they will probably love them....I made these for my son for school...and the other kids would want his lunch....because they were quite good, and very different.....For his lunches I would cut them about 1" thick and roll in foil to keep them together...in his backpack.
When he got older I quit cutting them and he ate them like a burrito....Fresh tortillas are best for this.....as they are more pliable. (If they were a few days old...I wrapped them in a cloth towel and nuked them for 1 min....then work fast)

Toad in the Hole

--------------------------------------...

An old favourite (certainly from my childhood) and a real comfort food. Served with mash and beans, it’s hard to beat. So easy to do and with the two egg batter mix the hole part of the dish should rise spectacularly.
No weighing scales needed.

75g Plain flour
2 x Eggs (medium)
75ml Milk
50ml Water
Cooking oil
12 x Sausages (best chipolatas)

also, if you want mash with it 1.5kg Potatoes
30g Butter

Make sure all your toads are separated! Lay out on a nonstick, oven proof baking tray with a lip or roasting tin. Drizzle with a tiny bit of oil and put in a hot oven (Mk 7, 425F, 220C).

Fill a standard sized mug about half full with plain flour. Put the flour, two eggs and a pinch of salt in a mixing bowl and mix till you have a gloopy paste. Fill about one third of a standard sized mug with milk and then top up with water so the mug half full. Add the water-milk to the bowl, a bit at a time while mixing, making sure the mix stays smooth. Cover the bowl with cling film or a plate and put it in the fridge while the sausages are half cooking.

After the sausages have been cooking for about 10-15 minutes take them out of the oven and pour the hole mix (batter) over them evenly so that the whole base of the tray is covered. Put the tray of sausages and hole mix back in the oven and cook for a further 20-25 minutes or until the batter is golden coloured. Keep an eye on the batter, it should rise nicely and be golden brown, but not burnt. After the toad has been cooking in the hole for 15 minutess, put some baked beans on the stove and take the potatoes off the boil, drain and mash them with some butter and a splash of milk. Serve when the toad in the hole batter has risen and is golden.

chicken nuggets and chips!!!

or go to macdonalds and get everyone something different lol!!

but then again, maybe not.

GRAVY CHIP OR CURRY CHIP EASY DAHH LOL

Let them have fun and fix their own easy snack. Buy a can of biscuits and let them stretch out the biscuit dough on a baking pan spread some pizza sauce, shredded cheese, and some slices of peperoni on top and bake till done.

also....2 slices of bread in toaster spread butter when done add cheese slicebetween the toast and place in microwave to melt cheese. Easy way for kids to make toasted cheese sandwhiches.
