A stove problem, can someone help me out here?!
Answers: I have an electric stove. My daughter has gas. I realize that it takes longer for mine to heat up and cool down and that a gas stove has instant flame and heat. I maintain, however, that once my burner is heated up the heat is hotter than the flame of a gas stove and therefore cooks the food faster. My daughter can't believe it is hotter than a flame. Can you verify this one way or the other?
I've worked in commercial kitchens for years and used both. Gas stoves heat by flame which is more subtile and responsive than the electric eye. The eye is in direct contact with the pot or pan and uses direct conduction to cook. That is why you can see spiral burn marks in the bottom of the pan if something burns. Gas flame heats more evenly across the pan. Hot or hotter is rather subjective. If the temperature were the same (average, because electrics turn on and off to maintain average) the cooking would occur at the same rate, but the gas would have less hotspots and thus tend to burn less.
I can't really confirm which is "better", but I hate gas stoves and wouldn't cook on one if it was given to me for free. That's just my opinion though. Gas stoves are dangerous. Electric stoves don't blow up.
gas is hotter and keeps the temperature steady .Electric stoves will go on and off I have cooked on both gas is hotter . better in my personal opinion .
if you know any mechanics , prove it to her 1 on 1 , borrow a temp gun from a mechanic , heat the element , point tool at it and there you go , it will give you the exact temp on the surface of the element. do the same on her stove . compare .
It really would depend on your daughter's stove. Stoves aren't all the same. If she has a professional grade stove her heat is probably hotter than yours. If one stove is newer than the other it's probably hotter. Honestly, let your daughter believe what she wants. Really, what difference does it make as long as the food tastes good?
I wish I knew the answer to that because I burn my food on electric whenever I have to use it. I have a Gas Stove/oven and it seems that the heating element on an electric Stove/oven produces a constant heat where as the flame is not as strong. Sorry I couldn't help more.
I don't know but I can say this, every time I have lived somewhere that has an electric stove I burn my food the first few times using it until I get used to it. So, I would tend to agree with you as far as your stove being hotter.
The answer is not that an electric burner is hotter than a gas burner but that an electric burner while it does take a while to heat up will boil a cup of water faster than a gas burner because of how it delivers the heat.
Most people that prefer gas prefer it because it is more controllable and even in heating.
Gas is hotter!
if used correctly they will both operate at the same temperature.
the best mix however is Electric oven with a gas hob this will give you instant control of the rings yet fan assisted control and even temperatures within the oven
hope this helps
They both work well and get the job done...it's just a personal preference. I learned to cook on gas stove and every time I use an electric one I burn something...which means you're probably right, and electric cooks hotter/faster. To me, that translates into burnt porkchops. Conversely, the flame on a gas stove perhaps promotes more even cooking.
I won't ever intentionally use an electric stove, but only because I just don't like them...but I know a lot of people feel the same way about gas. To each their own!
I have used both gas & electric stoves in the past. I didn't find much significant difference in the cooking time. I prefer electric because with a gas stove I found everything in the kitchen would turn yellow & have a layer of grease/ dust 'baked' into it no matter how often I cleaned.
gas is quicker ,cheaper and far more better than electric stove ,your daughter wins hands down ,
