sure you can do that, you can also leave them as they are and make a gravy for them and call it salisbury steak and serve that with pasta too!

I've done this b4 in a pinch & as long as the patties aren't already cooked it should be fine. Try adding a little water to the broken up meat when it's frying- it'll help break it up or 'loosen' a little bit.

You might check the package label, make sure it's ground beef. Some pre-made patties are made with soy or seasonings that some people may be sensitive to.

Otherwise, yes. Break it up while cooking it.

Another time saver if you buy more ground beef than you can use, break it up and fry it, then freeze it loose on a tray. When it's frozen, break it apart and store it in zip freezer bags. Later, it's fast and easy to get just the amount you need for cooking.

Just cut them into bite sized pieces.
