Is it okay for the pancake mix to have lumps?!
Will the pancake be okay?
Thanks x
Answers: Okay I am making pancakes out of a ready made mix - just add water mix and it has lumps.

It is okay. To avoid large lumps...I always take a fork and break up the lumps in the dry mix before adding the liquid to the mix. It helps alot.
they are better with some lumps
It's ok to have to have small lumps....in the words of Alton Brown---"Walk away....just walk away!"
If the lumps are too big then when you eating the pancake you could get a few patches of dry mix in there. Next time, stir the dry mix with a fork or whisk to get the lumps out before you add water.
It's supposed to have lumps. If it doesn't you'll have heavy pancakes. Overmixing is bad! Mix just until moistened for fluffy pancakes.
Pancake batter should have lumps!
Ooooooooh absolutely NOT...............UGH!
No. Use a whisk to get them out.
It is fine if the pancakes have lumps if you like raw pancake mix , when you are stirring the batter take the back side of a spoon and mash the clumps against the side of the bowl and that should take care of the lumps. If you don't want to take the trouble to do that, you can just eat them lumpy it won't hurt you and my lazy teenager say's they taste just fine.
it is supposed to have some small lumps...makes them puffy
generally yeah, but those lumps are dry powder,(which would burn on the pan) so add a little more fluid and mix it with a fork to break up the lumps.
Besides, you could also read the directions on the bag of mix.
lol, yes. not too big tho. you dont want clumps of unmoistened batter when you bite into your pancake.
No! No bumps will ever be tolerated in my pancakes (as I do not like the taste of raw pancake mix)
You didn't mention how big the lumps are, but small ones are just fine. The answer stating that you can break up large lumps in the mix before adding liquid ingredients is also correct.
The reason that a few lumps are OK is because the more you mix, the more you develop the gluten in the flour, which results in a tough pancake. Most pancake mixes recommend that you whisk the batter just until all dry ingredients are moistened.
Next time, make them from scratch---so easy and much less expensive.
1 cup all purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
2 tsp sugar
1 Tbsp salad oil
2/3-3/4 cup milk
few drops vanilla extract
Whisk dry ingredients in bowl. Add wet stuff and mix until blended. Let sit for a couple of minutes--then ladle onto hot griddle.
It's no good use the whisk the get rid of them if you want perfect pancakes.
