OK for Casserole?!
Answers: I have 2 pieces of grilling steak but loads of veg to use up. Can this type of steak be used in a casserole? The steaks are 3 cms thick. Could I cube them and use in a casserole?
Steak for grilling is usually a more expensive cut and as such has less fat running through it (not the big chunks that you can see easily).
Slow cooking of the meat will drain it of flavour so the suggestions of a marinade are ideal; you could add a lot of seasoning/herbs.
Why not cut it very small and stir fry with the veg you have? You would retain the characteristics of the meat and use up all your veg.
Yes.If you have some red wine, cut the meat into cubes and let it marinade in the wine for a few hours. This should make the meat more tender.Cook slowly.
Yes that will be fine...as with any casserole you slow cook the meat so it won't make a difference really what meet you use.
definitely. cube them, brown them, stew them.
Yes, I've done that before. I'll stick pretty much any type of meat into my slow cooker for a casserole.
Yes,slow cooking is the answer to any nice casserole.Hope you enjoy it,mmmmmm,I can smell it from here!
Dice it, marinade it, and remember to season well..Enjoy..
Yes, it can, cut into bite size pieces and it shouldn't take as long to cook as stewing steak.
Yes should be fine, i have used fillet steak before as was perfect!
I always use sirloin steaks for braising so your steaks should be fine. In fact, I'm preparing braised steak for tonight myself using sirloins! Coincidence or what?
Try frying the steaks whole in a hot pan with a little oil to brown the meat then remove the steaks and fry some onions in the same pan. Remove the onions and make a thick gravy using the steak and onion juices and some beef stock. Pour the gravy over the steaks and either casserole them for about 3-4 hours or all day in a slow cooker.
Absolutely delicious served with boiled potatoes and peas.
Yum Yum!
