Making cake, but don't have vegetable oil....can I use butter instead?!

Question: Okay, this is not a pineapple upside down cake. It is a pineapple cake that calls for sugar, white flour, eggs, pineapple, salt, walnuts, baking soda, and one cup vegetable oil. But if I can't get my hands on vegetable oil, can I substitute something else? Please help! And thanks!

You can substitute the butter for the oil in equal amounts but you need to omit and salt the recipe called for as the butter is already salted. As for shortening in place of the oil that is a NO. Don't do that as the fat content and composition of the two oils is very different and you can mess up your recipe.

Yes, butter or margarine will work. Melt it first and let it get to room temp before you add it to the cake mix. Add one cup.

yes it will work, but its more fatty.

I dont know if I would use butter, but I know you can substitue apple suace for oil in all recipes

you can substitute with butter or shortening.

no i wouldnt!!! butter and vegetable oil arent the same thing either wait for vegetable oil or get corn oil its the same thing

Yes, the butter will be just fine. Use the same amount. Melt in microwave at half power. Let cool before you use it. You can also substitute applesauce. Use the same amount.

I've used Olive Oil before and butter because I don't like hydrogenated oils. Always tastes great to me.

I don't know about butter... but I'm sure you can use corn or canola oil. Maybe ask your neighbor for some!

1/2 cup of Mayonaise can be subbed for any cooking oil. Sounds gross but thats how my grandma's always made their cakes moist, which is what the oil is for.

yes u can use butter but melt it first n cool at room temp
before adding into your cake mixture
