I'm wondering if this cake recipe sounds ok?!

Question: I'm making a birthday cake for my mom, and i found this recipe online:

2 c. cake flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. milk

It's for a two-layer 9 inch cake.
Sound ok? Or other recipes?
Thanks so much!

looks fine
are you supposed to cream the butter and sugar, add eggs one at a time and then add the flour and milk alternately?
if that is the case, it's a pretty reliable butter cake
you can serve it up as you would a sponge cake - it just won't have that very light texture, just a good plain vanilla cake.
you can use cream and jam in the centre
or you could make lemon curd and put that in the centre with cream- that is yummy beyond belief.
best of luck - btw, mum's can never get enough of home made cakes for their birthday --- I am still waiting for one, and I bake birthday cakes for my family, month in, month out, year after year :-)

get a box of cake mix. it tells u what to do on the back

that recipe will make a mediocre cake, nothing special. if you want some thing special try this http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Tiramisu-La...

In all honesty it's a pretty amateur cake recipe but, it's easier to just get a box of cake mix. Then you won't have to worry if the cake is going to turn out bad tasting. I have tried a new recipe recently, but it wasn't very good, so no point in telling you it.

I do have an excellent recipe for a thick chocolate frosting, that everyone who has tried it loves. If you'd like to know it, I'd gladly give it to you.

Sounds good to me. Just don't overmix it or you'll risk making it heavy and tough. Just blend enough to get it all wet and combined, then pour into pans. You're sweet to do that for your mom.

That is a good base. Get creative and think about adding some flavorings.

6 T cocoa and 1 tsp peppermint extract for chocolate mint

2 T orange zest and 1/ 4 c orange liqueur for orange- Chambord for raspberry Amaretto for almond.

You get the idea, use your imagination. Props to you for baking from scratch.

It looks fine to me. If you want a plain yellow cake a super easy one to use is this one. It tastes like a homemade cake but better.:

Yellow cake

1 (18 1/4 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350° and lightly grease and flour a 13x9 pan.
2. Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl and blend on low speed of mixer for 1 minute.
3. Scrape down sides with spatula.
4. Increase mixer speed to medium and beat an additional 2 minutes.
5. Pour batter into prepared pan.
6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and tests done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
7. Cool on a wire rack and frost as desired.

yes its ok but u must add some...
make it 3/4 cup butter instead of 1/2 cup
1 1/2 cup sugar instead of 1 cup
4 eggs instead of 3 eggs
then its a butter cake already
try it....its good...
