Blank book to write your own recipes in? (gift for a close friend)?!

Question: hi,

a good friend of mine is a great chef (top of his class at culinary school) and he likes to write his own recipes for things but he's always writing his new recipes on tiny memo pads or the back of used computer paper

he just got an internship at a five star restaurant and this could really be a jump start on his career, he someday hopes to own his own restaurant and be renound for his original recipes

so I thought a great gift for him might be a nice looking bound book, something blank so that he could write all his recipes in them, possibly something made for holding recipes but if not that's ok.

any suggestions on where I could find a book like I've described to give to him as a gift for this special and exciting occasion?

I'm checking barnes&nobles.com but I'm not sure if I've found something quite right for him just yet, so I thought I'd get some other people's opinions and ideas.

Thanks for all your help!!

what a good friend you are. did you try any stationary stores in your area. they usually sell high end paper and diaries that you described.

i ordered one from LTD commodities

great idea!

have a look around at hobby stores or book stores, im sure ull be able to find something really nice

Stores selling stationary will most likely have what you're looking for.

My best cookbook is just a spiral bound--tabbed notebook like you'd buy for school. Mom had one section for dinner, another salads, another cookies, etc. All handwritten by her. Get one of those--maybe weasel a recipe or two from him so you could handwrite the first one on each section??

I bought one at Barnes & Noble and another one at Wal-Mart

My great-grandmother gave me a similar book when I was 8. This book has an index at the end that you fill out as you go, so that you can look to see what page you wrote a certian recipe on. The only info I can find for it is that it was made/published by Random House in 1981.

Great idea. Some other places to try would be a college bookstore, a print shop (one here has bound blank sheet books in sturdy covers for less than $10), a traditional 'man' store (fly fishing shops carry journals that are lovely and leather bound here) or a greeting card store. Some shops will personalize it, too. Hope you get to participate in some taste tests!

I just bought one from border and it holds a lot of recipes. It's really nice binder type.
