When you are cooking a new recipe for the 1st time, do you add?!

Question: your own touches as you are making it?

Answers: your own touches as you are making it?

I usually make it as is the first time, unless, when tasting it, I find something lacking. After that, if it wasn't so great, I'll tweak it as I go. I'm a big onion fan and usually add onion to just about everything I cook.

There are times when I've searched the internet for something different to make, printed the recipe, only to discover I was missing about half the ingredients. I substituted like crazy, and it turned out great. The next time I made it according to the recipe and it wasn't so good.

i'm usually a big seasoner, so i always add salt and pepper to alot of things, sometimes seasons salt or garlic are the perfect touch to a food thats too bland.

Yep. Usually I try to add my own touches to a recipe

Yes. If I don't have a listed ingredient that I don't think is worth buying or I don't have time to get, I'll try something else. I'll also add something that I think will enhance the recipe. I'm big on garlic in cooking and chocolate chips in baking. : )

Yes...generally if I am making a new recipe I try to get several variations of the dish and then I make an amalgam of them. This doesn't work for baking, but for cooking its fun.

I try to make it as is, but I just can't help putting my own touches in it. It's a compulsive thing, I think.

Yes. I live in the Southwest and we think most foods taste better with cilantro and fresh garlic. I grow fresh herbs on my patio, so tonight we're having baked fish with lemon and fresh dill and chives.

My husband is pretty picky...so i find that a lot of times i have to adjust recipes to suit....but,I also like getting a general idea of a recipe and create my own from it.

Most of the time when I follow a recipe for the first time, I follow it to the letter. Except when it doesn't include garlic or only calls for 1 tsp. That's way too little for me. And I'll leave out things I don't like, like fennel. Or if it calls for a white or yellow onion, I always use reds. After trying it, I make notes on the recipe about what I'd do different next time. OK, I guess I futz with recipes more than I think I do.

definitely yeah it always tastes better , just try and remember what you put in it for when you make it again ,

When trying new recipes I sometimes modify it to my family's tastes. For example if it calls for a cup of bell pepper, I might cut that back a bit ( not a big fan of Bp's). Sometimes I will add more garlic to the recipe. Just depends. The more I think of it, the more I realize I do modify the recipes to our liking.
