it is impossible to say because you didn't tell us how many it would make whole!!! In the uk we weigh everything in grams which makes it easier to half, but with yours I would try

1 rounded cup of flour
1/2 a cup plus 1/3rd cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
pinch baking powder
1/3 cup shortening
1 large egg
3/4 cup water
1/2 tsp vanilla

GOOD luck!

To halve a recipe, generally you just measure half . . .

Ingredients
? 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour 1 1/8 c. (1c. 2tbls)
? 1 2/3 cups sugar 1/2+1/3 c.
? 2/3 cup baking cocoa 1/3 c.
? 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 t.
? 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 t.
? 1/4 teaspoon baking powder half of 1/4 t. measure
? 3/4 cup shortening 3/8 c. (1/4 + 2Tbls)
? 2 large eggs 1
? 1 1/2 cups water 3/4 c.
? 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 t.

**** well, you made half a recipe - what's half of the amount it would have made? You didn't say, so how can I figure that out?

It looks like the whole recipe would make between 18 and 24 cupcakes so halving it would make between 9 and 12 cupcakes, approximately.

This recipe looks like it's going to make 2 dozen cupcakes. Maybe a few more depending on the size you make. I would not cut it. Go ahead and make them then you will know for sure what the amount is.

There are two ways that YOU can calculate yield on this recipe ;Weight and volume
Since this recipe in volume -add up all of your volumes
Divide by your portion size-whatever sized scoop you're using -and that will give your yield
If it's a bastard number like 21 change it to something normal and adjust portion size accordingly

Rayehawk told you exactly how to do it , so there 's no point in me telling you again. I often divide pound cake recipes like his because the regular recipe makes a cake that is too big for my family and it turns out great. Your cupcakes will too.
