Recipe for authentic Sangria from South of Puerto Rico?!
Answers: I went to the south of Puerto Rico and stayed at a place across the water from Gilligan's and Bellena Island. I want an AUTHENTIC puerto rican sangria recipe, please. :)
I'm sorry I can't help you more, but at this point I will do my investigating.
The recipes given you so far are not "authentic" Puerto Rican Sangria.
There are many different versions of white and red Puerto Rican Sangria.
The Puerto Rican Sangria most typically made is with Bacardi 151 Rum and Gallo Burgundy wine and then mixed with local tropical fruit juices. I don't have an exact recipe but I'll try to get one.
I'm the host of a group called PuertoRicoDishByDish on the Care2 Network. Please feel free to look it up if it interests you. I have a growing group of AUTHENTIC recipes, so authentic that most of which you will find in grandma's kitchen. Keep in contact, I will try my best to find you the recipe!
The following link at the bottom of the page probably has the closest version of Puerto Rican Sangria I know of. I will translate it into English just in case:
1 bottle red wine
1 cup dark Puerto Rican Rum
1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
1 cup of sugar (traditionally raw sugar is used, a type called Panela)
2 cups sliced peaches
Stir all ingredients together, except peaches, until sugar dissolves.
Stir in peaches.
At time of serving, add ice, and stir well.
Before serving, remove ice and serve immediately.
Ingredients
3 1/4 cups ( 26 fl. oz) dry red wine
1 tablespoon sugar
Juice of 1 large orange
Juice of 1 large lemon
1 large orange, sliced thin crosswise
1 large lemon, sliced thin crosswise
2 medium peaches, peeled, pitted and cut into chunks
1 cup (8 fl. oz) club soda
Preparation
Combine all the ingredients except for the club soda in a large punch bowl or serving pitcher, mixing well. Refrigerate overnight. Inmediately before serving, mix in the club soda for added fizz. Ladle into cups with ice cubes.
JM
1 (750 ml) bottle red wine (cheap spanish tempranillo works great)
3/4 cup white rum
1/2 cup whiskey (sweeter the better)
1/4 cup triple sec
1/2-3/4 liter lime flavored seltzer water
1 cup sugar
1/2 lemon
1/2 orange
Note: Because of the large volume I suggest making this in batches. This is one reason for the vagueness of the measurements.
Mix the wine with 3/4 cup sugar. Set rest of sugar to the side.
Add Liquors and stir.
Slowly add 1/2 ltr lime seltzer and stir.
Taste now and add any ingredients to taste. There SHOULD be a bit of a liquor bite to it, but it should NOT be overpowering. Likewise it should be sweet but not send you into a diabetic coma. It should also have a decent fizz to it, if it's too thick, add seltzer. Just experement.
Once you've got the taste you want, add the slices of fruit. I've found that the sangria i get in America tends to be loaded down with fruit. Remember that it's more of a garnish and only adds a bit of flavor. If you need a ton of fruit to get the desired flavor, you haven't got the right mixture.
Have fun experementing, and enjoy it. It's perfect for summer days and bbqs.
