What is the acidifier in this basic chocolate chip cookie recipe?!

Question: Baking soda reacts to some sort of acidity so what does it react to in this cookie recipe?

1 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 1/4 cups flour
2 cups chocolate chips

Or am I wrong? Does the baking soda react just by becoming wet?

You're right. It should be baking powder, not baking soda. None of the other ingredients are acidic enough.

baking soda
