What is the most unusual potato salad you have ever had?!

Question: We have always, in the summer months, managed to get together with friends at one of the public parks, and someone always brings that summer staple, potato salad. I have noticed, though, that this dish is one of those that brings out the bizarre creative side in people. One time, I ate potato salad with halved red grapes in it.....

So, do any of you have unusual potato salad experiences? Do you have your own unusual way of making potato salad?

I love my mother's potato salad, and the only unusual experience I ever had was after eating some that had been outside for too long! (Long night afterwards!) Nothing exotic about my mother's recipe, but it is the best I have ever had. The red grapes sound lovely, though!

Potato with boiled eggs, onions and mayonaise and teaspoon of lemon.

I've seen some that make hemlock look appetizing.

I like taking the potatoes (naturally after they're boiled and peeled) and adding some chopped hard boiled egg, some diced onion, green pepper and cerery with celery seed. Then add your mayonaise (or Miracle Whip) and add a mixture (heated and stirred to ensure its disolved) of 1/3 cup cider vinegar and 1/3 cup of sugar.

Perfecto!

I think the most unusual potato salad I have ever had was "mashed potato salad"........just smoosh all the ingredients together.......you don't have to chew!! I'll take the old standard any time.

Another time, a coworker brought hers and none of us could figure out what kind of onion she used......found out it was radishes.....unbelievably fantastic!!!

Potato salad with beets in it...EWWWWWWWWWWWW!!

The one I had had cherries and raisens and the two tastes were great

I had a German potato salad once that was served warm. Good, in a sort of vinaigrette instead of the usual creamy version, but certainly not the American picnic staple.

I've had it with bacon and crumbled blue cheese. It was really good....I got the recipe from RecipeZaar. It's called Gandolfo's Potato Salad.

"Baked Potato" Salad.

mixed together with sour cream

My friend's dad makes his potato salad with red chili peppers. I wish he had warned me before I ate it. That stuff was hot!!!

my mom simply made it with cooked potatoes, alittle onion, boiled chopped egg and homemade mayonaise based dressing.
But I've had it with all manner and like of veggies in it.
the best one I ever had had chopped peppers and cucumber in it.

When I made it for a restaurant I managed, I would make it like my moms but with alittle chopped dill pickle....mmmm

IT WAS MADE OUT OF REAL POTATOS!! THE HORRRRROOORRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had one where someone put mini-marshmallows in it and I didn't care for it at all. I just prefer mine with potatoes and eggs and a little bit of celery.

Heavy on the black olives and garlic- it was delicious.

My grandmother made hot potato salad with cider vinegar and cabbage and hot redskinned potatoes (skin on). Very german.

We make one at work that is served with a nice big rib eye. We have a local farmer who grows a variety of potato called Roseval for us. We then take good quality slab bacon, dice it then render most of the fat from it. Saute lots of shallots in the bacon fat then turn that into a vinaigrette. The salad gets finished with French green beans and parsley leaves.

I had potato salad with raisins, grapes, and pineapple!
GROSS!

ooo- I like the potato salad with the red grapes in it.

Though I have had one that someone put crab meat in - it was...interesting.

The grocery store where I used to live did their potato salad as peels instead of chunks - must cook up faster. It was very good.

There is one Russian potato salad called olivski or somewhat similar name. It is potatoes, mayonnaise, small pieces of smoked ham, peas, onions, boiled eggs and other ingredients. I used to like it, it's so tasty.

We used to do the same thing, and i have had, some of the worst potato salad, you could imagine.

even when most of it is left on their plates.
