We raise our own chickens and raise not only layers but fryers. I've "plucked" many a bird. I've never had any bad smell come off it when cooking it. If you bought your chicken a regular grocery store, maybe it wasn't as "fresh" as you thought. On occasion stores will forget to pull something past it's pull date so be sure to check that before you buy.

If it has been frozen before, maybe it's freezer burn? The only time I've ever had any meat put off a bad smell (other than kidneys cooking), was from freezer burn and once I smelled that, in the garbage it went because it wouldn't taste right.

Try cleaning your pans and oven thoroughly. Seriously, if you have reside from, say example, a fish in a pan that hasn't been cleaned prpperly you will find a nasty niff coming up!

It's natural. That smell used to make me sick when I was pregnant though; I literally had to leave the kitchen.

huh? cooking chicken smells good, probably you dont really like its smell

no i have never noticed a bad smell when cooking chicken.
and i have cooked thousands of them.
you would have to describe the smell to me as it might have been so many things like just feathers burning or the chicken was on the turn .
how long ago did you cook it have you had a dose of the runs .
what else did you cook with the chicken as it may have been that .what oil or fat did you use if fat was it OK as that can cause bad odours please put more details on thank you

When a chicken is frozen, the odors are almost all trapped, so the smell from your fresh chicken is natural. Also make sure you clean the chicken thouroghly.
