I recently bought some at either CostCo or Sam's Club. You should have one of these in your area. I have also seen them in grocery stores. Although I guess that finding a variety of oameal other than Quaker in a nice warm area like Florida might be a little difficult. You can also try online food sellers (see below)

I have a can from Quaker Oats. Sold in the grocery store next to the oatmeals. They take about a half an hour to cook, but they are supposed to be the best of all the oatmeals. Usually, i just use the regular oats. Only take about 10 minutes.

if you live in south west florida a resturant called calistoga has them.....

other then that try doing a search for them on the web

They are also known as OLD FASHIONED OATS. I've been searching high and low for that recipe, but I can't find it!! Sorry.

McCann's Irish Oats are sold in the supermarket. So are Quaker. They are made from groats (the inner kernel and only chopped into 2 or 3 pieces so they are coarser than quick cooking oats. You can also buy them in bulk at health food stores.

1 cup steel cut oats
1 cup dried cranberries
1 cup dried figs
4 cups water
1/2 cup half-and-half
In a crock-pot, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours.

Stir and remove to serving bowls. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning.

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 9 hours

You can substitute apple juice for part of the water.
Enjoy!

I would look for something that says steel cut oats right on the package. Check the organic section of your grocery, or near the generic oats. they are not the same as old fashioned oats. If you wanted to used cider, I would just cook them according to package directions, or according to a recipe for crock-pot oatmeal, except substitute cider for oatmeal. I used to do it this way over an open fire -- definitely a treat! Good Luck!
