Lard is acceptable in terms of consistency, but you might consider flavoring with turkey bacon if you want that smoky flavor minus the pork. Not sure if your inquiry is based on religious preference or health?

lard or margerine is good

oil......your not supposed to use bacon grease anyways

hard shorting like crisco or lard

Lard or vegetable shortening or butter would all be ok substitutes, but realize you'll give up the extra flavor that the bacon fat adds.

What are you having your dumplings with? I made them with beef stew last month, but now I'll probably have to make some again this month!

Coconut oil, or even butter.

crisco shortening or the oil , margarine or lard or butter like the ''i cant believe it not butter.''

butter will be good margarine is load it with bad cholesterol
