do your hubby a huge favour and make him realise how much you love him by cooking his favourite meal !

leave all the experimenting for another night.. if he loves cod and chips... then, please.... (as a bloke who has been on the recieving end of many a experimental meal)... cook that for him

ill be checking back here soon to pinch all you ideas too, as im also staying in cooking a nice meal, while the kids are in bed.

Something informal you eat with your fingers like tapas.

If you want traditional get something like slow cooked lamb shanks/stew from M&S - decant it and allow it to cook really slowly - he won't care you didn't make it if you have a nice bottle of wine and and cuddle for him.

Heart shaped meatloaf with a nice tomato/wine sauce with fried mushrooms and fried peppers. Mashed potatos.
Use a can of Tomato soup to make the wine sauce.
Heart shaped cake and ice cream.
Simple, attractive and tasty.
Mmmmmmm

cant believe enigma got a thumbs down for having a sense of humour. hope that wasnt the asker. I wouldnt say its interesting but its hearty and will fill him up. make a big cottage pie using all that stuff and some mince and onions. top off with mash and plenty of cheese. try stuffing some field mushrooms with parma ham and blue stilton as a starter. red wine to accompany for a nice earthy meal that will fill you both up.

hey me too-my hubby still makes me heart-shaped toast smoothered in chocolate for breakfast.

There are online cookbooks that you can add your ingredients to and they give you a list of what you can cook.

Have a great day.

well here's what i would suggest
i would take some wine and use it as a marinade for 2 strip or ribeye steaks, let it marinate for maybe 2-4 hrs and broil it if you want mushrooms you can add them around aluminum foil in the broiler but keep a close eye on them they may burn
cook some long grain wild rice w/ a bit of worschester (sp) sauce and take a medium sized yellow squash, zuchini and a red bell pepper and saute on med heat with garlic, (bruschetta if you have it) if not a half can of seasoned diced tomatoes will work, and whatever seasonings you like.

to turn the marinade into a sauce take some leftover marinade and put it in a pan on medium/low and wait till it slightly bubbles keep an eye on it and it will become a fancy red wine reduction sauce!
good luck

Yes it would be best if you Cook a Nice Hearted CAKE

How about a chicken cacciatore over mashed potatoes with a spinach salad or green beans with almonds and then a chocolate dessert. The great thing about this recipe is that once you get everything in the pot, you are done...just let it cook. Great meal for a family.
A good chicken cacciatore recipe is as follows (it is my husband's favorite):

Ingredients:

? cup olive oil
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 large onion, chopped
? cup white wine
1 clove garlic, minced
? jar of capers
1 tbsp. tomato paste
1 large can chopped/peeled tomatoes
? tsp. Allspice
dash of pepper
2 dried bay leaves
2 tsp. Dried thyme, crumbled
salt to taste
10-12 button mushrooms, sliced
? cup water

Mashed Potatoes
Potatoes (about 2 per person)
Milk to moisten (amount varies..add a little at a time)
2 tbsp. butter (optional)
salt and pepper, to taste

Directions:

Heat the oil in a large pot and cook the chicken until lightly browned on both sides. Add the onion and sauté a minute or two; splash in the wine and let it boil up. Deglaze the bottom of the pan by scraping the bottom of the pan to get all the “goodies” off the bottom. Lower the heat and add the garlic, tomato paste, tomatoes, mushrooms, water, capers, and all the seasonings. Cover and cook slowly for about 40 minutes. Remove the bay leaves. Taste and correct the salt. Serve over mashed potatoes.

I add mushrooms to the sauce also and use beef broth most of the time...

Stuffed filet mignon with red wine
*************************************6 Shallots -- diced
2 cups chicken stock stock
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup Red wine
4 Filet mignons
12 ozs Roquefort cheese, crumbled or your favorite

12 Shitake mushrooms or what you have

In a side of each filet mignon make a slit 1 inch long. Stick a paring knife through the slit and cut out a pocket inside the filet. Stuff the filets with alternating layers of the cheese and the mushroms. End the top layer with the mushrooms. Press the slit together so that it closes

In a large skillet place the butter and heat it on medium high until it is hot. Add the stuffed filet mignons and saute them for 4 to 6 minutes on each side, or until the desired doneness is achieved.

Pour the Red Wine Sauce over the top of the filets.

Red Wine Sauce
*****************
In a small saucepan place the red wine and the shallots. Cook them on medium high for 4 to 6 minutes, or until the liquid is reduced to 3 tablespoons. Add the chicken stock and cook the sauce for 15 minutes, or until it is reduced by half. While whisking constantly, add the pieces of butter one at a time. Add the salt and stir it in.
