Is it better for a chef to do his cooking on a full or empty stomach?!


Question: I personally think empty, as it would make him cook it to suit himself, as opposed to full stomach, as he may make it rather hastily. Thoughts, opinions?

I prefer to be at a comfortable level. If I am hungry then I eat while I cook and miss the whole thing at the end. If I am full then I don't care to put much effort into the food.

I prefer to have eaten lightly. Too stuffed and you are sluggish. If you haven't eaten, you will distracted and not pay the proper attention to what you are cooking.

I agree with lightly. If you are hungry you will probably be distracted and munching on ingredients as you go. If you're too full, you won't be as into it and yes, you will be sluggish. So definitely go in-between.

I also agree with eating lightly. I work in a restaurant and I like to have something in my stomach before cooking.

depends on the chef---some need a light snack, others let their mouths water while cooking, knowing what is to come.

It is better for the chef to always remember he is there to feed the people first , staff next and himself last.Why do you think most good line cooks are skinny and most chef are fat?The chef,having earned his position through good taste, always tastes everything , especially the things people under him are learning to cook , as well as his own explorations.A line cook is a machine and machines don't need food.

A medium stomach?

Full, he would not be in a hurry to taste his produce, so it could simmer for a while, before it needed to be tasted.
