Why do people think that meatloaf is icky?!
Answers: I personaly enjoy meatloaf, but all my friends think I'm wierd because of it.
I don't know but I love it. I cook it all the time. Maybe your friends are the ones that are weird, not you.
It can be made with very questionable products and still taste the same. Plus, it kind of looks the same going in and out.
But I do love it as well!
Meatloaf is da bomb,literally
I love meatloaf......Of course no meatloaf is as good as moms
I always thought I didn't like meatloaf. At a church potluck, however, it was discovered that I did not like MY MOTHER'S meatloaf. She found the lady whose meatloaf I did like, and got her recipe. (My mom was using an awful green spice of some kind that I could not stand.) I have enjoyed meatloaf ever since.
To answer your question directly, I'd say that those who don't like meatloaf haven't tried the right kind yet.
I love meat loaf....and meat loaf sandwiches the next day....
meatloaf is a classic dsh. many people consider comfort food. i hated it when i was a kid, i have theory it was always overcooked, but my mom says no.
my kids love it
Because Im vegetarian.
ino.... me n m8s discussed this the other day....
IT PREPOSTEROUS!!!!!
Meatloaf rocks!
Probably because they were subjected to the same meatloaf I was in school; hamburger with onion soup mix in it and dump some ketchup on top. It ruined meatloaf for me until I learned to make it myself and found out how it should really taste.
In my experience there are more people who don't know how to cook a worthy meatloaf than those that do. I grew up hating meatloaf only to find out it wasn't the concept of meatloaf it was they way those I had eaten had been prepared.
I am blessed with a 12 year old culinary genius for a son and he can make an meatloaf that has people asking to come for dinner when they find out he's cooking one.
First, because when you add the word "loaf" to a food, it just makes it so much more....appetizing. Just think! "Cabbageloaf," or, come down to McDonald's for our new McLoaf!
Second, I agree with several who have already written--many do not know how to make a good meatloaf. It's the kind of thing that can be good when it's made right, but can really, really go wrong when it's not.
Third, my personal opinion, it ruins two good things--meat, and bread products. You can't really taste the meat well, and you can't put butter on the bready part and have it melt in your mouth. You just slather ketchup all over the whole thing and...ick.
I love meatloaf. It's real comfort food - take me back to my childhood. Altho I make better ones that my mom did. I have a whole bunch of recipes for them. The latest one I like is to put salsa and cumin and taco seasoning in it and gives it a Mexican flair. Kind of like a taco taste without the holder (can't for the life of me think of what it's called) and I don't like tacos because of them.
If its made with some wierd stuff yea it can be icky, but if you find a tried and true recipe like grandma use to make your good as gold and its going to turn out darn good everytime. Mine is below and YES those that want to try it can.
Makes for 6 mini loafs or 1 big loaf
1 lb beef sirloin
1 lb gnd turkey
1/2 lb gnd pork 80/20
1-2 c bread crumbs italian
2 eggs
2 good squirts of frenches mustard
2 squirts of ketchup
4 squirts of good fav bbq sauce
1 med onion chopped and sauted in 1 tablespn olive oil
1 small red onion cut in to thin rings for top deco
1 stalk chopped fine celery sauted
1/4 c match stick carrots also sauted
Combine all wet ingredients in bowl, whisking to combine well. and in another bowl all cooked veggies and bread crumbs reserve half of crumbs if you want it dryer once its been gently mixed. Combine all meat and wet ingrideients gently by using fork , if its over mixed the loaf will be tough and heavy. Once all wet have been in corporated slowly add your dry a little bit at a time, til the consistancy you want it. Form in to mini loaves or big loaf, decorate top with a bit of BBQ sauce and onion rings, bake at 375 til your meat thermometor reads 165. Or at most 1 hr
I bake my meat loaf on a baking sheet instead of in a loaf pan. If always turns out perfect and just wonderful. Enjoy
Combine the meat with the wet
The only reason I will ever eat meatloaf, is that it is my husband"s favorite food. I think it is mushy and nasty, and the texture is like what I throw up .
