How long does it take to boil a 4.3 lb whole chicken?!

Question: I'm trying to make chicken soup. The recipe says 'simmer until chicken is done'... that doesn't really help me out a whole lot!

A 4-5 pound chicken takes about an hour to boil, so a larger chicken would take longer as a guess about an hour and a half. The meat will start falling off of the bones when it's done.

60-70 minutes, meat will fall off the bone when done.
Less time if you disassemble the bird first.

AB's chicken soup:

... this recipe is quite flexible, and easy as well.

Cut the chicken up into parts; don't boil it whole.? And you want to cook it on a simmer, not a roiling boil.? Water should just cover it.? Add peppercorns, sage, and rosemary if you like that.? Cook it until the meat starts to pull away from the bones, which should definitely be less than one hour.? When you remove a thigh, the juices should run clear.? If they are still red or pink, it's not quite done.? Remove the smaller pieces (wings and drumsticks) first, so the larger pieces can sit in the hot water longer, which will help them cook. There's really a much easier way to make chicken soup.? Just simmer a large chicken breast in canned chicken broth.? When it's done, let it cool in the broth.? Cut it into chunks.? Cook whatever vegetables you like (carrots, onion) in the broth, then add noodles and cook until noodles are done. Add the cut-up chicken and heat throughout.

It's in the Williams-Sonoma soup cookbook, and might be available online.
