Love lasagna! My recipe is simple. I make my sauce with Prego, it's quicker to use the jarred. Brown ground beef with onion and garlic, drain. Add Prego and stir. For the filling I use cottage cheese and spinach- you can omit the spinach and if you don't care for cottage cheese then use ricotta. Mix in a bowl with egg and some shredded parmesan cheese. In an oblong dish, start with sauce, then arrange your lasagna noodles on it. Spread the cheese mixture. Layer sauce, noodles and cheese. End with noodles and sauce on top and generously top with mozarella cheese. Bake in oven at 350 degrees, covered. To avoid cheese sticking on foil, spray foil with Pam. Cook for 1 hour. Bon apetit!!!

I make my own sauce using a mix of tomato sauce and paste (the jarred stuff is crap) I use Italian seasonings and sugar to get the flavor we prefer (just keep tasting) and I use more paste then sauce for lasagna since I want it fairly thick. For the meat I brown up a mix of ground beef and sausage in some olive oil and freshly crushed garlic.
It does not matter what brand of Ricota you buy, and if you need to you can always use a mix of egg and cottage cheese. I use lots of shredded mozzarella
It is all about the taste, there's millions of different recipes, it just depends on how you like it. I don't follow a recipe, I just mix and keep tasting because I know how we like it.

Cook lasagna macaroni according to box and lay out on aluminum foil to cool to touch. Brown meat and drain and add Prego spaghetti sauce. Start with meat sauce and layer in deep baking dish. Meat sauce, noodles, cottage cheese and Mozzarella cheese and layer until you end up with Mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 degrees covered with foil for 35 minutes.

If he loves lasagna and you can talk to family ask them if there's something special you should know about what they do. It's going the extra step to make it special, and bring it home.

In our family it was tradition to have slices of hard boilded egg inside. It was something that my grandmother did and it sets our family recipe apart from most others. I never asked why it was in there but my grandma used to have a hard boiled egg in the sauce (said it reduced the acidity of the sauce) but for whatever reason it's part of our tradition.

In browning the meat we use onion, garlic and grated cheese
oregano a little parsley.

When mixing the riccotta cheese we also add grated cheese.

You can pretty much follow any recipe but like I said you might want to find out what could set his family recipe apart from the average.

Minced beef (go for quality)
Lasagne sauce (the best is Dolmio)
White sauce for lasagne (as above)
Lasagne sheets (pasta)
mushroom
Onions
Grated cheese,

Follow the instructions on the sauce and pasta packaging, no problem, he will love it....

Start with top notch products.>
