I have a recipes for a Harvey Walbanger cake which calls for Galliano, but I can not seem to find it?!

Question: Is there another liqueur I could use as a substitute?

Answers: Is there another liqueur I could use as a substitute?

You can substitute Neopolitan liqueur (which is a cheaper American version of Galliano), or Sambucca. Galliano bottles are tall. Your local liquor store should carry any one of these three choices, either Neopolitan or Galliano or Sambucca.

Galliano is a brand name, not the type of liquor. Check at your local place that sells alcoholic beverages.
Hope this helps.

you should be able to find it at your local ABC store
just ask one of the check out pepole they will point you in the right direction

the bottle is a tall skinny kindof triange shaped and its yellow
that might help you find it

I've actually had that drink, it's a very rich, so I'm sure the cake would be the same.

As others have mentioned already, Galliano is a brand name for an anise liqueur, and if you have any specialty liqueur stores in your area, check with them, they might have it, or they might have an off brand anise liqueur that will suit your needs. I don't recall any names off-hand, I found out the hard way that anise makes me nauseous, so I have to stay away from the stuff as much as possible.

If you don't have any luck with the liqueur, you might try using a pure anise extract, you'd have to cut back on the measurement dramatically (extracts are very strong) For every 1-2 tablespoons of Galliano the recipe calls for, substitute a teaspoon of anise extract. You should be able to fine anise extract in the baking isle of a supermarket. It's flavor is similar to licorice, and it's used in a lot of cookies and so on.

Galliano is actually more of an anise and vanilla flavor. You could try using sambuca, anisette or ouzo (listed in order of preference) to get the anise flavor and add some vanilla extract. It is hard to find these days - Harvey Wallbanger was a popular drink in the 70's and it was Galliano and Orange juice.... I never liked the taste - are you sre you want to make a Harvey Wallbanger cake?
