Does filet mignon need to be marinated?!

Question: It's better if you don't. Filet is naturally tender, plus it's an expensive cut of meat. Save the marinade for tougher, less expensive cuts of meat.

Just be sure you sear it on almost-high heat if you pan cook it, or you can broil or grill. An hour or so before cooking, you can rub it lightly with olive oil then rub a cut garlic clove over the surface of the meat. This is totally optional, but a subtle garlic flavor will infuse the meat. Season with salt and pepper just prior to cooking (not optional).

Unless you are grilling, avoid spice rubs. They can burn.

No, wrap it in bacon and grill it - unless you want it well done then butterfly the steak.

yes, but try a lite steak rub, dont soak, try to use something with less salt, if you are grilling spray cooking spray on meat after you season. ( keeps meat from sticking ) and also seals in the juices

its all up to your taste... what do you feel like... i prefer it marinated but you can also just cook it without it... its good to...

yes with steak sauce

No, should be very tender. If it already comes pre-wrapped with the bacon you're in luck. If not put the bacon around it, secure with a wooden skewer (soak the skewer in water first, so that it doesn't burn). When it's done cooking, let the meat rest for several minutes, most people do not do that and then wonder why the meat is dry (DUH, you didn't let it "rest"!!). Then serve after it's rested for a few minutes.

No one would ever marinate a great hunk of beef like that at my house! Bacon wrap it, like the other guy said...

If you're looking for alternatives, serve it raw in a light truffle sauce.

Depends on what you like, but here is a link to a good recipe on food network. The top recipe on the page is for the marinade.

No. There are many ways to prepare it.

Absolutely not!! All you need to do is wrap each filet with a nice piece of thick cut bacon ( I prefer the applewood smoked) & lightly sprinkle each side with a little Montreal steak seasoning. Grill over medium coals til medium/rare - turning only once or twice & only with tongs. For anything over medium, you will need to butterfly the filet so that the outside doesn't overcook.......I like to serve with steamed asparagus & homemade garlic bread.

hi mamaof2! filet mignon doesn't need to be marinated at all because it's the most tender type of steak that u can buy & also it's the most expensive steak too! so that's my answer to your question! bb

I wouldn't marinade it - not everyone likes that taste for beef.

What I would do is make a nice sauce and it can be served on the side:

See the yummy picture! http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup/...

EASY Bernaise Sauce:

1/2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
3/4 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon water
pinch of ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon of tarragon (dried is OK)
1 egg yolk
1/2 stick of butter

Simmer the vinegar, lemon juice, water, pepper, and tarrigon for 8 minutes.

Add water if too much evaporates. Remove from heat.

Separate an egg yolk into a cup. Beat the egg yolk for a minute or more to cream it.

Add the egg yolk to the vinegar reduction and heat gradually, stirring, until the eggs thicken.

Remove from heat. Beat in pieces of butter gradually, placing over heat occasionally.

When finished, keep warm and until served.

not if its a quality filet. you put ketchup on cheap burgers...a filet is supossed to be good to go with no help

That would be a crime against meat. A good fillet should not have anything done to it, doesn't need it. And if you put ketchup on it you should be sentenced to soyburgers for life.

Not necessary.
