Villa Calcinaia 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva.

A beautiful Chianti. Rich cherry, subtle herbal characters and a complex finish.

It won a gold medal at the worldwide wine championships.

Let your own senses dictate which wine goes with what food
Read Katies post: "but thats just me" = awesome

But inside the box: a nice Chianti is excellent

of course the grandfather of good Italian wines is a nice Barolo!!! But they do say the best thing to go with salty or fried foods is Champagne....prosciutto and polenta can tend to be a bit salty...just something to think about!!

With pork White wines are so much better. That is just me. A real good one is:Pinot Grigio 2004 Santa Marfgherita From Italy. I think Red wines are good with pasta dishes. Have a nice meal sounds good.

Polenta-fontina reminds Piedmont and Val d'Aosta, a red wine from Piedmont may fits, so Barolo or Barbera (which popularity is increasing) are may first choices.
