silicone muffins stand alone as long as you put it on a half pan- (cookie sheet) but be warned most silicone discolor and you will not get it clean. evidently they all stain. make sure you spray some pan in it just in case. i have used the Wilton castle mold and i like it. i don't use it very often. just make sure the structure of the cake batter is sound.

the muffins do not require the tin. They should easily come right out. I have never used the castle cake mold. The advantage to using the silicone is that your cakes etc will not stick to the material. It is also easier clean up.

My silicone muffin pan came with a metal "support" - it does not stand on its own. If yours did not come with one, you can put the silicone in a metal muffin pan, or just set it on a cookie sheet.

What I like better about silicone is that there is no rust and everything comes off of it very easily during cleaning. My metal pans look horrible after very few uses.

I love the silicone bakeware. I always put it on a cookie sheet just to be safe. That way you will be sure to have a level cake or whatever you are making. Clean Up is sooo much easier...the food doesnt stick to the silicone.
