Are all steel cut oatmeal brands alike or are there ones better than others?!

Question: McCann's is popular but there are bulk brands that are such a bargain I wondered if taste, consistency, etc. varied from brand to brand.

I am a former chef and have used McCanns and a few Scottish ones and they are all basically the same, I like to make mine in a crockpot the night before, add the water, a pinch of salt the oats and set it on low and in th morning you have creamy oats that just need a bit of brown sugar and milk the finish them.

I have used them to make regular haggis with meat and in a veggie one with portebello mushrooms, TVP and some seiten, I do not use the pouch from the lamb, I use a ovenproof bag in a roast pan with some stock.

If you do not want to do it in a crockpot overnight, take the oats, and soak thme in hot water and let them sit out overnight, in the morning measure the water as the serving suggestion recommend, drain the oats and add them to the water, it will take 20-30 minutes to cook this way otherwise it can be up to 45 minute for it and who has that long in the morning dashing out the door.
