How to make cooking possible? My hands, wrists, fingers are weak and painful. Cramp when I cut up veg. Painful!

Question: My kids want macaroni salad and I hate not being able to prepare the vegetables. Is there any kind of inexpensive,
easy to use gadget that might not hurt me? Please help.

An electric food processor can help. They have small ones as well as large tabletop models. Look around and pick which is best. Some have a feed tube so you can put stalks of celerty or carrot sticks down the tube as you go.

But more importantly, do you know why you are having pain? Carpel tunnel? RA? If not, get thee to a physician. Even if you choose not to take medicine at least find out what the problem is so you can use the type of therapy that you do approve of... traditional, surgical, holistic, accupunture.. whatever.

A processor would be a handy dandy tool :) You can cup the veggies to a desired size.

There are also slicing and dicing gadgets that you can buy from zellers or walmart. You place your veggies in the opening, push down and voila perfectly diced veggies. But you do need to slice larger pieces to be able to fit them into the dicer.

I have a miniature electric 'chopper'....just pulse till the desired size. I use it for ALL my vegis that need to be chopped! You can find at any walmart, kitchen store, etc.
You can get an idea here......

How old are your kids? Old enough to learn how to chop?

If you want versatility, get a food processor- I like Cuisinart brand. If you want cheap (as low as $10), go with a vegetable chopper- just push the plunger repeatedly to chop until they are small as you like.

If you want get the alredy cut and veggies inthe frozen aile ofyour grocier store and put it in the microwave and boom there you go nice healthy steamed veggies :)

Being an arthritis sufferer I sometimes have similar problems myself. I find using a smaller, and very sharp knife, makes it easier as it isn't so heavy to hold and you need to apply less pressure.

We used to have an automatic gadget something like this:

Its not electric and you just push down the top bit repeatedly. They don't chop too neatly, and you do have to physically push it down.

You can also get electric ones whoch aren't too expensive:

which would obviously be much easier to operate, and are simple enough to use.

Hope that's some help.

I would suggest a small food processor.

you can buy frozen or fresh chopped vegges in every local stores. there are lots of combinations available in market, even seasoned veges. a handy chopper is also a good option but buying chopped veges is super easy:-)

I don't know why your hands are painful, but something that has greatly helped me is cold pressed Castor oil. I put the oil on my hands each night and roll a heating pad around them for a few minutes, then massage them. When I first began, it was painful, but they are much better. It must be cold pressed Castor oil which I could not find locally, but it is pretty cheap on the internet--$5 per quart, which lasts a long time. If you wash dishes by hand, you can also put the oil on, then use gloves, and the hot water and movement help too. Also, using a chef's knife is easier for me than a paring knife.
