I don't think that will work. The crystals in regular sugar are too large and you won't get smooth frosting.

I would say no, unless you are making a buttercream frosting in which you would need regular cane sugar and corn syrup.

No. Powdered sugar contains cornstarch, which will give the frosting some structure. If you're making a heated frosting (Swiss or Italian meringue), you can use cane sugar.

For each 1 cup powdered sugar, substitute 1 cup granulated sugar + 1 teaspoon cornstarch ground in a blender (not a food processor...it won't blend properly).
