What is the best way to color fondant?!

Question: I am making a cake for my daughter's 3rd bday using fondant (for the first time). I was wondering what the best method of coloring white fondant is... also can you decorate fondant with regular icing or do you have to do fondant flowers instead?

Why buy colored fondant when you can easily color it yourself....
Color it with gel colors, by Wilton or AmeriColor

Not sure if you made the Fondant or bought it....but if you made it, the best time to color it is in its liquidy form (also not sure what type of Fondant you may have made...marshmallow or the regular stuff). I make Marshmallow Fondant, so when i have melted the marshmallows, I add the coloring. If you got a bunch of diff colors to do, just divide up melted marshmallows into diff containers and then start adding powder sugar till they are workable enough to knead on your work surface. Colored Fondant will get darker, or more 'colorful' once it has set a while....

If you are coloring pre-made fondant, the best way to color it, is to just knead in the gel coloring....wear gloves as it gets messy...

If you decorate with Buttercream, it will soften up the Fondant a bit...but not too much...if you are doing say a shell border or somethign simpel like that, its fine, just don't go crazy with the Buttercream i guess......hehe.....if possible try decorating with dried Royal icing accents or stick with Fondant accents

I would say to dye it would be best.

well, knead food color dye in it, but next time buy colored fondant....
