I saw this on the Food Network and didn't believe it until I tried it...

Put the onion in the freezer for like 10-15 minutes before you chop it. It will help chill the juices in the onion that make you cry.

It works for me...

After you peel it, run it under cold water then use a non serrated blade to slice with.

Burn a candle nearby, for some reason it sucks up the onion fumes!

YEPP IF U REFRIGERATE THE ONION BEFORE CUTTING IT THAT HELPS ALOT!!!!

Place the onion in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes before you plan on chopping it. This will help lock in the juices.

i chop onions next to the sink with the cold water running...

Definetly after you peel it, rinse it under cold water.
Also, make sure that the knife you are using is very sharp, because a dull knife; for some reason puts more of the onion particles into the air.

Chew gum while you're chopping.

Have someone else cut them for you : ) then there are no more tears ....

Swim goggles

you can peel the onions under water and do as much of the work underwater as possible.
next chew a piece of bread when working with them

THE BEST WAY is to get them swimming goggles that cover ur eyes completely and have good suction, HELPS ME LIEK 100PERCENT i bought one for like 30bucks just for that, refrigeration helps, but the goggles is like pretty much foolproof, hope that helps

Ah, reminds of my past job. Slicing onions on the slicer to prep the sub station. Not the most fun part of the day. Was in tears when i was done and had to wash my face.

I cut off the ends and rinse in water cut in half and peal the outer skin and the first tough layer..
Never have a problem..

Before peeling and chopping the onion, strike a match and blow it out. Wave the burnt match around the cutting area. The sulfur from the smoke will absorb the odor and there will be no tears. Works for me every time!

Happy chopping!

Cut off the top of the onion before the bottom. No more tears.

i put mine in the freezer for a couple of hours. supposedly running it already peeled under cold water helps.

Buy the frozen chopped onions.
