Is lettuce EVER cooked?!

Question: I don't think it is, but if you know of a way, please tell me.

Is there any other veggie that isn't ever cooked?

Lettuce can be grilled, it is used in Italian escarole soup, and "sort of" cooked by wilting it with a dressing made with hot bacon grease, bacon bits, etc. It is kind of hard to cook a cucumber, also avocado.

I don't believe I have ever had lettuce served to me cooked.

Lettuce turns to mush if cooked.

Giada De Laurentiis of the Food Network has a recipe in one of her cookbooks called "grilled lettuces." I 've never tried it.

Look lettuce turns to a gross mush if it is cooked. Tomatoes aren't always cooked, and neither are cucumbers.

lettuce is cooked mostly in Asian cooking..

theres a soup recipe i know that uses Beef ribs and broth with diff. veggies in it and the lettuce is cooked in it.

I make lettuce soup. It's very good!
Use some beef stock, cook diced potatoes, carrots and onions, add a bay leaf. When potatoes are soft and done, add shredded green leaf lettuce, a little bit of lemon juice (to your taste, but it should taste just a little sour), scramble an egg and add iit to the soup drop by drop. It is done right away. Add some sour cream, sprinkle with chopped herbs and Bon Apetit!

I've seen it cooked, called "wilted lettuce" it was quickly fried in bacon grease. Quickly, as in about 30 seconds stirring the whole time. Just long enough to wilt it.

Old-Fashioned Wilted Lettuce

this is a wonderful 'wilted' salad with leaf lettuce served with a creamy dressing

INGREDIENTS
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup light sour cream or sour cream
2 tablespoons sliced green onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 bacon strips, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 head iceberg lettuce, torn
1 large onion, sliced into rings

DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, beat eggs, milk, sugar, vinegar, sour cream, green onion, salt and pepper until smooth; set aside. In a skillet, cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon to paper towels to drain, reserving drippings; reduce heat under skillet to medium. Whisk egg mixture into drippings; cook and stir until thickened, about 3-4 minutes. Place lettuce, onion and bacon in a large salad bowl. Pour dressing over and toss well. Serve immediately

Everything Alton Brown makes is awesome and this grilled salad is no exception!

Grilled Romaine - Alton Brown, 2005
Good Eats - Good Wine Gone Bad

1/2 cup red wine vinegar
2 hearts of romaine, rinsed and patted dry
1 tablespoon olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup finely grated Parmesan
Vegetable spray, for pan

Place vinegar in shallow pan and place in the freezer. Allow the vinegar to freeze, approximately 2 hours. Once frozen, scrape with a fork to create a shaved ice texture. Return the vinegar to the freezer until ready to use. Cut each heart of romaine in half lengthwise so that the root keeps each piece together. Lightly brush the cut side of the romaine pieces with olive oil. Season with the pepper. Place the cheese in a shallow pan large enough to lay the romaine in and press the cheese firmly onto the cut side of the romaine until it adheres. Spray a nonstick griddle or saute pan with vegetable spray and preheat over medium-high heat. Place the romaine in the pan and cook until the cheese turns golden, approximately 1 to 2 minutes Place the romaine, cheese side up onto plates and sprinkle with the vinegar ice. Serve immediately.

Wilted lettuce salad is the only way I know of.

Yes, lettuce can be cooked.

You can make it into soup etc. However the one I usually make is a dish that's interchanged with other greens - but usually an iceberg lettuce is used and is of Chinese origin (my father used to make it).

1. Heat a pan up with some peanut oil.

2. Add some crushed garlic and stir until fragrant.

3. Take 1-2 cubes of yellow fermented beancurd (found in jars, usually with chili and white wine at most Asian stores), place into a bowl and mix to a paste with a tiny bit of water.

4. Add the fermented beancurd mix to the pan, stir then add chopped iceberg lettuce.

5. Stir fry quickly, adding a little bit of salt, serve.

NB - Don't cook the iceberg for too long, otherwise you'll end up with a lot of water coming out of the lettuce and thus diluting the flavour.

(I also add it to stir fries when I've run out of vegetables.)

Yes. Different types of lettuce are fvorite ingredients in shabu-shabu or hotpot, a sort of Asian fondue using a rich broth instead of oil.

Lettuce is also used as the "skin" for the classic Chinese recipe Minced Squab in Lettuce.

Yes. Creme de Laitue ( cream of lettuce soup)
classic french cooking. Chicken veloute, chiffonade of lettuce finished with cream.
It's pretty tasty.

Romaine lettuce can be heated without losing it's crunch. I put it in wraps with roasted peppers, steak, onions & cheese and then put it in a hot frying pan to make the outside crisp and the tortilla stick itself. I'm able to heat it through until the cheese is melted, the steak is warm, and the lettuce always stays crunchy.

I've never had a cooked cucumber.

You can make lettuce soup and then the lettuces is cooked but i don't think it's cooked apart from that
